Can A Company Withdraw A Job Offer Because A Doctor Gave You A Prescription For Hydrocodone?

I have been taking Hydrocodone for many years off and on because I have had 21 surgeries for different things. I still have chronic pain so I take it every now and then. I had a job interview a couple weeks ago in which I took one before I went because I was in severe pain. Little did I know they would do a drug test on the spot when they offered me the job. I tried to give them a list of my medications, but they refused to take it. They said they would ask for it if anything came up. Well, the Hydrocodone came up and they withdrew my job offer before asking for the medication list or copies of my prescriptions. When the lab called, I immediately faxed them a copy of the prescription for the Hydrocodone, but the company had already withdrawn the job offer and refused to re-offer it to me again. Can they do that?

Depends on the type of job, and the company's rules. If it were me, next time i went job-seeking I would not take anything for a day or two and simply lie.
Some companies do have a no tolerance policy and as long as they keep it within certain legal requirements, then they are well within their right to do so and you really have no recourse.
If you were already working there and they were causing you problems over it, then the legal requirements are much stricter and you have better protection, but there's really nothing that just protects you for a job offer.

I'm very sorry that this happened to you, but due to how severely medications are abused, it has been happening more and more recently to everyone, especially job seekers.
