Can Xanax Er Be Broken Into Ir

I honestly don't think breaking them would take away their extended release properties, especially if they are in tablet form. None the less it would probably be more dangerous to do it that way rather than getting a different prescription. Your body would be absorbing the full dose at once in a way that it's not meant to. Xanax is one of the last drugs you'd want to OD on, so I can only encourage you to play it safe. The score line is actually just for dividing your dose in two.

Have you tried any other brand or generic of Xanax? They all seem to have different levels of potency depending on the manufacturer and which inactive ingredients are present. The FDA also permits generic formulas to vary by as much as 20% from the active ingredients in brand formulas. 20% is extremely sloppy in my opinion! Just something to keep in mind whenever you talk to your doctor about switching medications.
