Can Subutex Neutralize Dilaudid Given By Iv? (Top voted first)
UpdatedWhen I was in the hospital I was given the Diluadid through an IV, and it didn't seem to work. Is it possible that the Subutex I had been taking daily neutralized the effects of the Dilaudid, because I got very little relief from a high dose of the Dilaudid?

Iv form is generally stronger enters body faster. However if you've exp a not so understanding and empathetic med staff who doesn't lock off it'll feel like you never got your dose, as it cycles up then bk down it takes hrs. Just watch, ask, or pintch off behind the spot.
Please let me know if the drug sub Subutex can neutralize the Dilaudid one given by IV? When I was in the hospital and being treated for serious surgery, I was given the Dilaudid by IV at a high-dose and felt very little relief. The nurses thought I was being a wimp until my pharmacist told me not to me that I shouldn't take the two above medications at the same time because the Subutex can possibly neutralize the effects of the Dilaudid. Does anybody have any concrete medical information that this is true? I would greatly appreciate a response and your time for the response. Thank you so much!
If I was on Subutex the whole time I was in the hospital and I was given IV Dilaudid in high doses for pain, well the sub you text affect the potency of the Dilaudid?
A response would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!
Hello, Diane! How are you? I'm sorry that you didn't get an answer in a timely manner.
The Buprenorphine in Subutex tends to have a much stronger grip on your opiate receptors, so it prevents most others from being able to have any effect.
The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Thank you very much for your reply. It was very helpful.
Sincerely, Diane
You are very welcome! I'm happy to help, if I can!
Tely,
That's the reason hydromorphone is contraindicated in patients concurrently being treated with subutex because the doseage of intravenous dilaudid required to produce sufficient analgesia increases the incidence of dose related respitory distress.Ill never understand why PHYSCIANS prescribe this compendium of cds's.I believe most of us require continuing education or at the very least a pharmacological refresher from time to time to avoid this type of issue from ever occurring.
