Can Prednisone Be Used To Relieve Topical Itching

Is prednisone used to relieve topical body rashes and itching.on elderly people? if so what side effects?.

Hi Nancy,

I was going to go ahead and say yes, until I noticed that itching, rash, & hives, were all listed as severe side effects of Prednisone. In my opinion it doesn't make sense to take something that could potentially make your situation a lot more pronounced than it already is.

One thing I would consider using is Lavender Essential Oil mixed in with a natural fragrance free lotion or even coconut oil. This should significantly help alleviate the itching and overtime should also help get rid of the rash. If you know what the rash and itching were caused by, there might be other preventative measures you can take on the side.
