Can Ms Contin Actually Cause More Pain?
UpdatedI am taking ER Mscontin 60mg BID and 30mg IR Mscontin BID for chronic pain. Ive been taking this dose for about 6 months, and before that I was taking the 30mg ER. My sister said she heard that sometimes morphine can actually cause more pain instead of just taking away pain. Have you heard this before, and if so where can I find more information on this subject?

Hi, Jen! How are you?
I'm not sure where to point you for the information, since it's really buried deep in the research details and the physician's side effect information that lists all the remotest possible side effects, but yes, in some cases Morphine can worsen someone's pain.
It doesn't happen to everyone, but in some cases, it causes joint inflammation that makes things much worse. I actually had it happen to me years ago, when I was on it for pain management.
Learn more Morphine details here.
As I said, it's not common, but it is a risk associated with taking it.
