Can Lidocaine Cause A Positive Drug Test For Amphetamines? (Top voted first)

Went to the dentist and had a tooth pulled. Dentist gave lidocaine with something else. Had a positive urine test for amphetamines. Do these do this? Or amoxicillin? I have to take antibiotic too for a while. Tooth is infected.

thats a lie they can to! same happened to me when i went to have my son! and the anistesiologist even said it could be from the epidural. and amox. because i took that for a UTI and a urine test came out dirty as well. for cocaine so. bud your wrong!

I know this thread is old but lidocaine can in fact cause a false positive for amphetamines. The difference for me was I was prescribed viscous lidocaine which is an oral swish & spit version of regular lidocaine. But when I came up positive after visiting an emergency room for something totally unrelated it caused me to look further into this. I ended up actually speaking to poison control to find out what their thoughts were on it. Poison Control verified to me that lidocaine can absolutely cause a drug test to show positive for amphetamines. And then to further have it verified I called the lab at the hospital and asked them and they gave me the same response that poison control did.

My roomate tested positive for amphetamines a few times and amphetamines are not his drug of choice. Then later found out that it was in his otc allergy medication. Check the labels of any otc allergy medicines because his dr. Said that was the culprit

How Did It Turn Out?

Those cheap, Urine Drug-Test Kit, the kind where they dip a stick/strip into the urine and whether or not the colors change OFTEN show POS for speed when the person has been taking Seroquel.
Seroquel is a psych med and in low doses sometimes given for insomnia.
However...
No person or place should EVER use those type of tests for anything but an indication of Possible use. says so on the boxes.
They must then be sent out to a Lab where it will come back as NEG.
unless of course it really was positive, in which you have at least bought a little time as it will return as POS if amphetamines were used.
But NEVER Accept those Urine Immed Result stick tests to be used against you if a POS for anything shows. AAsk to read the box. - if it states Only To Be Used as an Indicator - not definitive - Then point that out and if Truly didn't Use 1. Make sure they know how to read it (either way double check, i had a nurse misread my urine stick, call my po for pot use, not my drug ever, and b/c i insisted on seeing the supervisor turned out nurse had been reading it incorrectly)

and have it sent out to a LAB. That's the correct procedure as they are NOT Definitive.

Lidocaine with epinephrine (aka adrenalin) is a common mix. Lidocaine can give a false positive cocaine result on some older and cheaper drug screens. Epinephrine is a vasodilator used to control bleeding in areas where blood vessels come from multiple directions like the face. It is never used on fingers due to the possibility of stopping all blood flow. I work in an ER. Our urine drug screens are new fast tests which do not detect lidocaine but do detect cocaine. The results take around an hour for positive or negative detection. We can also do blood drug screens, which are more accurate and return amounts detected, but are send outs and take two days for results. These are usually only done for admitted OD patients as confirmation or for legal reasons. If a urine drug test comes back positive, request the blood send out to protect your reputation.

What do you do in the er, that you wrote some stuff like that, blood circulates and substances dissipate in the bloodstream every 6 to 8 hours ....A urine screen is way more accurate than a drug screen. Its why they are more common than blood screens. It's also why doctors prescribe medication to be taken every 6 to 8 hours because it leaves the bloodstream, but stays in the urine for days.. If you're going to give information at least be accurate about what you give, a false positive test can be confirmed..... Lc/gc/ms testing can determine if its a false positive!

Recently every 6 month I am testing positive for Amphetamine and they medication I take is Trazodone. I got to a Methadone Clinic, please don’t judge I am not a heroine or drug addict. I was in 2 near fatal accidents that caused me to have a shattered foot. They had to build me a new foot out of cement, pins, needles, etc. It caused 2 disks to slip and collapse on top of my spinal cord, it torn all the nerve endings in the root of my spine. Where the pain signals are causing excruciating pain. I was placed on pain pills that my body got used to and when I tried to stop taking them abruptly I got sick. So my pain management Doc requested Methadone. Been off pain pills for 10years. Now my original question, has or does Trazadone cause false positive for amphetamine and how can I prove it to the clinic without losing my take home bottles?
