Can Latisse Backfire? (Page 3)

Updated

I used Latisse successfully for several months & loved the look. But then my lashes started to fall out, leaving me with short stubby ones less full than when I began the latisse. Does anyone know if it stops working, or the body gets resistant to it, or have any of you had the same reaction? Thanks.

Hi there.
I was wondering if you have an update on the Lumigen. Like you, I have noticed the Latisse stopped working for me after three years of using it.

Loss of lashes while using Latisse is normal. Eyelashes go through a growth cycle. They grow, then are "dormant" for a period, then shed and start the cycle over again. Even without using Latisse your eyelashes will shed. I think because you're looking closely at your lashes while using Latisse, you tend to notice the shedding more. I'm a male who has been on Lumigan (the original Latisse drug for high eye pressure) for two years. I didn't give the possible side effect of eyelash growth much thought. We all know how many possible side effects are listed for most drugs. But after about 4 months, my eyelashes were a lot longer, darker, and fuller. They go through the normal cycle of growing, not growing, then shedding. Now when my new eyelashes come in, they are black, thick, and get extremely long. By extremely long I mean they reach the bottom of my eyebrows if I open my eyes wide. The bottom lashes are also much longer, but thankfully not as dark. Being a guy with eyelashes this long and noticeable was a bit embarrassing at first. But I'm now used to them, and it's a small price to pay for having my eye pressure lowered. So does Latisse work? Absolutely. But don't be surprised or think something is wrong when you lose some eyelashes. It's just a part of the normal growth cycle, the same as your head hair.

I also think it has to do with how "hairy" you are everywhere else on your body. I don't have much body hair so I don't think my eyelashes will ever get really thick or dark. They are thicker and a little darker but I still have to use mascara to get them to really show. I don't particularly agree with the "normal shedding" comment because when I used lattise almost ALL my eyelashes fell out, I don't think that's normal.

As with most drugs, people can have differing severity of side effects, or none at all. No, losing ALL your lashes isn't "normal" shedding, but how many people using Latisse lose ALL their lashes? My comment wasn't directed at someone who lost ALL their lashes, it was directed at those who posted that were using Latisse and are concerned about a FEW lashes falling out. And that IS a part of the normal cycle of eyelash growth, whether using Latisse or not.

Yes, I agree that different medications have different side effects on people. I know some people who have had no problems with Latisse. However, along with this site I have seen other sites where people have complained of shorter or stubby lashes after prolonged used of Latisse. I think most of us realize our eyelashes do shed, but the fact that they were a lot shorter and stubbier and sparser after using Latisse, so much so that we were prompted to see if others had the same problem, shows that this is one of those side effects that happens to some people. Just to clarify, I said 'almost all' my eyelashes. The only time I lost ALL my eyelashes was when I had chemo. With Latisse they were very sparse, short and stubby. Now with Lumigan they are fuller and longer.

I have been using Latisse for more than 3 years . A year ago I also noticed that it was not working anymore for me as well . I would love to know if I became resistant to it so I stop wasting my money on it

Started using generic Lumigan to beef up my lashes a month before doing another movie. They suddenly became super super fine, and half of them broke off as stubs and half fell out. Thank God they have me wearing false eyelashes! (Which I normally hate). What a bummer!!!

May I know if your lashes grew back?

My lashes grew back when I stopped using Latisse. They never fell out when I started using Lumigan, I've been using it for a few years one and my lashes are good.

Hi! This is happening to me, except I was noticing lash loss from my extremely thick and long lashes before using Latisse. I used latisse for 5 months and now I am off it and I barley have any lashes left. However, I am dealing with nutrition deficiencies and a slightly elevated thyroid which I know can cause eyelash loss. My mother has used Latisse for years and her eyelashes are amazing. My question is, did ANYONE have their lashes grow back after using Latisse and is it possible that Latisse made my situation worse? My lashes are very brittle and weak and I was wondering if for those of you whose lashes fell out, was the texture rough or did you feel discomfort when they fell out. If someone could please respond I would be grateful I am not sure what is really causing this and I'm desperately trying to figure it out.

So I was using Lumigan for about 2 years or so and it was working pretty good. Then this summer it seemed like it stopped working and my lashes started to get thinner. So now I have stopped using it again. This is frustrating. Has anyone used any other products like Rapid Lash? It may not be as potent as Latisse or Lumigan but does it work at all? I don't want to waste any more money.

Cat, are you noticing that your eyelashes are brittle and falling out, or is there discomfort or redness of any kind? Has anyone just experienced eyelash loss that is painless and keeps happening. Please help my left eye is almost bald

no there was no redness or discomfort. I just noticed that my eyelashes were getting a little sparser. It sounds like there is something else going on with your eyelashes, not just the Latisse or Lumigan. I would go to a doctor to get it checked out.

Cat
I don't really know what's going on. I have been off latisse for almost 5 months
I didn't notice any regrow while using it and now they just continue to shed. I never should have used it in the first place but I can't imagine that latisse can permanently stop the growth of your lashes that doesn't make sense!

Great news! I was really frustrated that for 2 months I had restarted Latisse and got no results. I waited another 2 months and gave one last shot; it's working like a charm! I don't know what the deal is- the manufacturers suggested it was a bad lot and reimbursed me. There's still hope, gals!

I have used Latisse for over 6 years now. In the past 6 months my lashes have been sparse and frequently I will get some that literally grow upside down or even kinky!
There is "NO" comparison to the the results I got the first few years. I am thinking that each one e of us has a pre-determined amount of lashes that we grow in a lifetime and am now worried that I have used all mine up and won't have any when I get old. I am going to quit using it after this bottle as it is no longer worth the every night routine.

(see my previous posts) So I stopped using Lumigan. (a milder form of Latisse ) because I found it wasn't working any longer and I did notice my lashes getting thinner again so I quit before it got worse. I had been using it about 3? years after I stopped using Latisse. It did work at first but then stopped after a while. I am currently taking the vitamin "Biotine" which is supposed to be good for hair and nails, maybe that's why my lashes didn't completely fall out this time. I was wondering if any of you have used any of the over the counter products like Rapid Lash or Idol lash. I don't really trust the online reviews. My normal lashes are fairly short and not too thick, I was hoping for at least a little improvement.

I've used latisse for 5 years. 2 months ago my lashes became shorter and it stopped working. Can it do that?
