Can I Stop Taking Subutex And Go Back To Hydrocodone Safely? (Top voted first)

I was taking 4 hydrocodone a day and went down to 2 a day. Sunday morning I took a very small piece of a subutex. Again, this morning I don't feel well on it. I have a headache and dizziness. Can I safely stop it? I am addicted to hydrocodone. However, I never felt this bad on hydrocodone as I do on subutex. Can I go back to the hydrocodone tomorrow evening?

You cannot take Subutex that soon after taking other opiates, or it can throw you into precipitated withdrawals, which might be what you are experiencing.

You must be in full withdrawal from all other opiates, before you take Suboxone or Subutex, unless your doctor instructs otherwise.

The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.

What instructions did your doctor provide for taking the Subutex?

Yes you can. It's the other way around that you have to worry about. You cant take norco and then take suboxone, that will send you into withdrawal, but the only thing that will happen if you take norco too soon after suboxone is that you wont feel the pain effects because they are being blocked by the suboxone. Depending on how large a dose of suboxone you took, I would wait 12-24 hours to take norco, because you want to be able to feel the pain relief.
