No, you can't cut or break the Oxycontin tablets. They must be taken whole. These new ones are intended to be tamper proof, to prevent someone abusing them, so it you try to cut or break them, you just end up with a pile of gummy goo that retains all the active ingredient in it and keeps its time released properties.
The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
