My findings state that there are potentially unsafe interactions between Xanax, Codeine, and Valium. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of:

The following paragraph applies to: Codeine & Valium (diazepam).

"Using codeine together with diazepam may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor."

The following paragraph applies to: Codeine & Xanax (alprazolam).

"Using codeine together with Alprazolam may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor."

Based on the above information I wouldn't recommend taking those drugs together, especially if you have daily responsibilities. However, if you're not taking Codeine, Xanax (alprazolam) + Valium (diazepam) are regarded as being safe to take together and shouldn't present any problems outside of the normal side effects associated with each medication.

During the 3 years I took care of my 91 year old Mom with her post herpetic neuralgia, (shingles pain) I was prescribed Rhovane, (Imovane) to help me sleep after a stressful day. After I had an emotional crash due to the drug, I was given Ativan for a while and then diazepam, 2mg, once, at night.

When my Mom entered hospital after a broken hip/fall, it was 3 weeks of hell for her and me.

I get headaches a lot and had been taking T1s for years, off and on. I discovered that taking 2 T1s with the diazepam really helped me to sleep soundly and be refreshed enough to carry on the next day with my vigil at the hospital.

After Mom died, I stopped the T1s and began a fresh round of tapering off the diazepam.

That's when the SHTF. Random days of extreme fatigue, bizarre feelings of detachment, ( sense of unreality) and of course insomnia.

My doc and pharmacist says that I was taking such small doses of each that that should not have been the problem.

THEY ARE BOTH WRONG.

These people have to get their act together.

That reminds me of the time, years ago that I was prescribed Metoprolol. I usually had a nightcap, one shot of vodka before bed. Both the pharmacist and my doc said that that would not be a problem.

NOT TRUE.

First few days, no probs but on the third day, I woke up DRUNK. I felt drunk all day, lucky it was a weekend. On the Monday, I was OK and called six pharmacies.

Three said no probs with alcohol and Metoprolol. Three said don't mix the two.

A search on the net revealed that Metoprolol can interfere with the liver's capacity to clear alcohol from the system.

Don't trust your doctor or pharmacist, ask Dr. Google,, and go to websites like this.
