i have an absess tooth and want to know if I can take Sulfamethoxazole-TMP-DS for this?

An abcess tooth is tricky and may be dangerous depending upon the circumstances. Serious bone (i.e. osteomylitis) infections can develop if not cared for.

Pen VK first, Amoxicillin is second and a third generation like Cefdinir would be an alternate choice with ampicillin allergies. Doxycycline is also used but the assessment should be made by either your dentist or your physician

While Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim is used to treat various types of infections, tooth infections is not one that is listed under the medication guidelines. Additionally, taking an antibiotic like this can very well create medication-resistant bacteria, that could be even harder to kill in the long run. So if you do end up trying to use it, make sure that you can kill the infection 100% the first time around, because it may not work the second time when the bacteria builds resistance.

I personally suggest looking into a natural remedy like 100% pure therapeutic grade Clove Essential Oil. It's known for being used in dental offices for treating various dental issues, including alleviating tooth aches (anaesthetic/pain relieving properties) and fighting infections (antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties). This option is much cheaper than a prescription and in my opinion is more effective since you're not only treating the tooth, but you're also doing your body a favor with all the antioxidants present in cloves. Furthermore these antioxidants can act to build up your immune system over time if used regularly in a capsule; and you may not have to worry about another tooth infection for quite some time. If you are interested in taking it, you should be able to find clove oil for anywhere between $10-$20 for a good brand.
