Can I Take Mucinex And Methadone

I'm sick and wanted to know if I can take mucinex fast max with my methadone, and if it is ok to do so?

I didn't find any problems or interactions listed, but you should double check this information to be certain. The major issue I see could be due the combination worsening the side effects, so you may experience more nausea, dizziness and drowsiness.

NEVER, NEVER TAKE MUCINEX WITH METHADONE. Extreme hallucinations and paranoia result. This happened to a family member two times and he ended up behaving erratically and needed a tranquilizer. He does not remember any of it.

I just took 2 mucinex on 93mg of methadone and I'm having weird pains in my chest, kind of like a burning feeling like realllyyy bad heart burn. What's wrong?

There is no possible way that Mucinex and methadone would cause hallucinations. Your family member was obviously on some other drug and just blamed it on the Mucinex and methadone. You can ask any medical professional and they will tell you the same thing.

I'm on methadone also...do not take the mucinex DM....The Dm can throw you into withdrawal and also can fainting....so make sure its just reguar mucinex.

I am on 100mgs of methadone and I have taken mucinex with it and I can say it doesnt mix well. I felt completely disoriented. I could only lay in bed. It took me days to feel myself again. I have spoken to a few other people who are on methadone and have taken mucinex. They have said the exact same thing that I have. I dont recommend it. My mom is now prescribed Gabapentin and she cannot mix it with mucinex either. She experiences the same symptoms.

Are you sure it's safe? I'm on 100mg methadone as well. I'm not sure but I think I have covid for the second time. I'm scared because I'm having kidney issues and I'm scared to mix the two. I know you said you can mix the two but I'm scared, but I do need to take it because every time I breathe my chest rattles inside, my nose is plugged up and I can't smell anything or taste anything, but my covid test was negative. I've had an ongoing untreated UTI since June 5th 2022. Just working at Walmart I don't have time to go see a doctor as they give out points when you miss work now. If you miss work and get five points you're fired. Sorry to bug.

Actually, there is a very serious interaction between methadone and dextromethorphan. It dual usage is contraindicated due to the risk of developing Serotonin Syndrome which is a medical emergency with symptoms ranging from shivering, nausea, delirium~ agitation, confusion, paranoia, hallucinations, insomnia, tremors, rapid heart rate to loss of muscle coordination, fever, high blood pressure, seizures, inability to breathe due to muscle rigidity and even death. Dextromethorphan is a common over the counter medication that stops the signals given by the brain stem in relation to the cough reflex. Both dextromethorphan is metabolized by CYP2D6 enzymes and methadone inhibits the metabolism of CYP2D6.

Dextromethorphan is contraindicated with methadone usage due to the risk of developing a potentially life threatening illness called serotonin syndrome. With Serotonin Syndrome one can become delirious with paranoia and hallucinations. Along with a myriad of other mild to serious symptoms.

I'm on 95 mg of methadone a day and have had covid. I'm on day 10 of taking both my daily dose of methadone plus mucinex 1200mg 12 hour tablets, 2 mucinex tabs a day, in addition to all my other normal meds, which is a lot, as well as afrin for nasal congestion. I've not noticed any difference in how I feel apart from the covid making me feel sick and the mucinex keeping the gunk out of my lungs (it's intended effect). I would not recommend the one with DM. My provider of my methadone told me that the DM which is the same DM u find in cough syrup can cause a nasty side effect but I was told mucinex without the DM is is fine.

This is humorous forgive me but your taking a potent poison methadone that's stronger than most opiates its prescribed for. I speak for 5 agonizing yrs of the stuff. Then I lost my eldest daughter Marisa to an accidental overdose. She was only 26.And your really concerned if mucinex is ok. Omgosh....That's insane.

These people on methadone are using so they DON’T overdose. I’ve been off everything but methadone for years and it’s ultimately saved my life. You can hold judgement all you want but if it keeps people off heroin or fentanyl and from dying I’ll always stand with it.
