if my throat is sore and itchy and coughing up phlem can i use this medication to treat it as a preventive for a full blown chest infecton or strep throat

Never use Cipro as a 'preventative' for anything. I'm not sure why many of you are asking about whether you can use Cipro for certain problems. Unless you have gone to your doctor, had it determined that you ACTUALLY have an active bacterial infection confirmed by culture, and your doctor gave you a prescription, then you should never take an antibiotic at all!

These are not Tylenol, you don't simply take some random antibiotic you have left over in your cabinet because you feel bad. And Cipro is one of the most dangerous. YOu can end up disabled for life because you took this antibiotic when you didnt' have an infection. And you could damage a child's growth plates if you give this to them!

Never take an antibiotic without a confirmed bacterial infection and a prescription. Please read some of the horror stories about Cipro all over the internet before you take this drug. EVEN IF your doctor gives you a prescription for this drug, you should ask him if there are ANY alternatives. Not BETTER alternatives, but ANY alternatives at all. These drugs are unsafe and should be used as a last resort for only life threatening infections for which there are no alternatives.

PLease read this site and educate yourself on the horrors that are the Fluoroquinolone antibiotics.

I has the same experience. Turns out it was post nasal drip and sleep apnea. She put me on nose sprays advair and pseuphed and advised me to get off animal products have a light dinner by 5:30 and lose weight. Also ordered scan of my sinuses.

Always always always finish your antibiotics whether you have pain or not! Or whether you think you are well enough to stop taking it or not! The antibiotics will kill the pain first and then work on the infection the rest of the time. If you don't the antibiotics for all of the days prescribed then theinfection will most definitely come back stronger and more resistant to the antibiotic that you did not finish!!! It's very important to finish all antibiotics when prescribed !

I have been waking up with no problems,with my Throat but after being up for a couple hours it feels sore and looks red. Saw my dr. Yesterday, and he gave me a rx for Amoxocillin. Forgot to tell him the last time I took it 5 years, ago I developed a rash. I have Cipro. Took one and plan on taking it until I can reach him on Monday. Am hoping it works. Never had a throat issue that would come and go. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

I suggest you use Caps Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid 625mg twice daily for one week.

Make sure you're aware of the side-effects. Sure it's effective but it's chemo and the side-effects are devastating if you happen to be within the 1% of the population that react very badly to it. Just to make sure you know what I'm saying, let me tell you that this drug can cripple you.

I'm allergic to every antibiotic known to man. I've had a bloody mouth from taking ciprofloaxin, and a hole wants to form in the middle of the bone in the middle of my nose. I have found that taking 2 bendryls About 10 minutes ahead of a ciprofloaxin makes it possible to take this medicine without any side effects, just have to take one while still on the medication period. You will notice drowsiness. I,m taking it for strepthroat now have taken it for urinary tract problems in the past!

No, you can not. Cipro is contraindicated for childred as it can affect growth plates

YOU ARE THE REASON THEIR ARE ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANT DISEASES THAT ARE KILLING PEOPLE!!!!! Don't you read about this stuff? Use this as a teaching opportunity, tell everyone you know how important it is to complete the course, and why. It doesn't just effect you, it allows the bacteria to mutate so the drug won't work for the next person.
