Can 100 Mg Doxycycline Be Used For A Tooth Infection

I had a tooth out last week and I think it's infected but I carnt get an appointment at the dentist for another 2week I've got doxycycline 100mg in the cupboard from a prior infection Im just wondering if it will help with the infection I've got in the gum socket at the moment?? Until i can get an appointment??

It is a broad spectrum antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of bacterial infections. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.

However, the main issue is that you may not have enough to fully eradicate the infection, which could cause further complications, such as your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria and that could turn into a much more severe mess.

Have you informed your dentist of the issue? They may be able to phone something in for you, rather than making you wait 2 weeks for an appointment. Alternatively, your regular PCP could also check this out for you and prescribe an antibiotic, if one is needed.
