A female patient has been on Bystolic 5 mg in the morning and 5 mg in the evening for 7 days, but it didn’t work for her blood pressure which remained over 185. So Amlodipine besylate 5 mg was added today.
The patient is 58yrs old with Graves’ disease and was diagnosed after she had atrial fib.

They added a new medication after just 7 days? How high is her blood pressure, and how bad is her afib?
Most medications in this class take about 4 weeks to reach their full level of efficacy in the body. Although, if someone's blood pressure, or cardiac condition are very high, sometimes more than one is prescribed.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of these medications as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, and increased urination.
Is she on any other medications? What does her normal diet consist of?
