Butrans Patch Not Staying In Place
(Newest replies first)
Updated
Hi, I recently started Butrans patch which seems to be helping except I can't get it to stay on properly even with the tagaderm covers. First off under my armpit was not good, so I tried the other side and the same thing they wrinkle. The left upper chest worked great when it was time for the right it was different couldn't get it to stay on flat. Could it be that it's hot and I move around a lot so I sweat idk. I just want it to lie flat and stay put like the first 2 times I applied it. Any suggestions?

Use tegaderm tape comes in various sizes/ order from pharmacy this tape is not cheap.
Been on Butrans on an off for years. No problem sticking.
Everything these days leaves residual oils on our skin. Soap, laundry detergent, fabric softners, etc. In our practice here in hot, humid S.E. TX we tell our patients to clean the area with alcohol, fan dry and then apply patch. You also want to hold the patch down and rub it to make sure it is sticking good. Usually this works. One of our patients applied tape immediately after following the above steps due to her excessive sweating. She reported that she would have to reapply the tape a couple times a week. She said the best area for her to apply that stayed on was the upper shoulder areas. Hope this helps
These buggars stick to me so badly that when I peel them off. There's a square of glue left on my skin that I can't get off. I stick them to my stomach when I'm standing up. Or my hips. I nearly take my skin off with them.
Yes, sweating or the excess skin oil that can occur due to heat may be contributing to the problem.
The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Have you been making sure that the application area is clean and dry?
