Bunavail Or Suboxone Can Your Pain Managment Doc Prescribe It

Updated

This new drug for opiod dependence sounds better than suboxone. What type of Doctor can prescribe this, and when this is prescribed I imagine you can't get it if you are on pain medication already. Would a doctor prescribe both if you want to wein off of your meds?? Both your pain meds and bunavail, or suboxone?? Just Curious.

Hi Taryn,

From what I understand, Bunavail contains the same active ingredients as Suboxone (Buprenorphine + Naloxone), so it's probably going to be treated in the same manner - being a Schedule III controlled substance. Apparently it was just approved by the FDA this past Friday (June 6th), and is supposed to reach pharmacies come October 2014. That would probably be the best time to ask your P.M. doctor or clinic about prescribing it.

I don't know what the standard protocols are for weaning patients off these kinds of meds (especially if you're truly dependent on them for relief)... However, when it comes time, the tapering process is usually based on a doctor's discretion & evaluation, coupled with your own opinion on what feels right for your body. Everyone is different though, so what works for someone else may not work for another person, and vise-versa. I would just suggest working with your doctor a little bit more in order to find out which method they recommend based on your wants/needs as a patient.

I hope this helps!

Hi Taryn, I doubt a dr. would prescribe both at the same time but I,m not a dr. so I don,t know for sure. It seems to me that subs or the new Bunavail would defeat the purpose of the pain meds. I agree with what david said about consulting a physician about it.

I'm trying to kick H. I don't have a Dr. I've taken suboxone and Subtext my friends have given me. I usually only have a few to get me through the 1st couple days. My kick has been manageable but I need to be prescribed medication by Dr. I've tried to do it on my own 3 times and have failed. Each time I've gone back to using isn't because a strong desire to feel high or little will power. By the 3rd or 4th day I become very lethargic and fatigued. I realize it's not going to be easy, but I have to work and be present for my family. I find it almost impossible to get out of bed.

To Salamander, I feel your pain (bad choice of words, I know) because I'm in the same situation. Different opiate to quit, but dependence is hard no matter what. I've tried both, suboxone and bunivail. I get better results with suboxone. BUT finding these meds on the street is tough sometimes, doctors are cracking down. To be honest, I live in Maine, where there are FAR more patients that need these drugs than doctors to prescribe them. It's a really tough path, I would like to congratulate you for starting the process. I almost with I had just quit the hard stuff than bothered with these suboxone-type meds because it's been much harder to detox off these, they seem to want to remain in your system longer. I know that most states have an online database for finding a doctor...at least you can have some stability for a little while, but the meds aren't cheap. Good luck!

To anyone needing a relief for the expense of suboxone film or the tablets. I personally have been on suboxone for a while and I think it is an amazing drug because you can function normally on it. For the people that say it's just another addiction is just not true. When your on opiates all you have to to think about or do is opiates. I know this I was strung out for many years and I could never hold a job or do anything else except run to the spot or hustle money to go to the spot.. What kind of life is that? Anyway for the expense you need to get the tablets and use a prescription discount card. It saves a ton of money. For example 14 tablets at walgreens without a card is like $120 dollars, but with the card it's 61 dollars; half the cost!! I have not found a card that's very good for the films sorry but if you ask your doc to prescribe you the tablets instead he should be ok with that.. Best of luck to everyone trying to LIVE not DIE! Hope this comes in handy for some people.

I am in the same place. It just hit me earlier that successfully kicking my habits takes support and lots of it. I'm supposed to take 2 subs a day, but I can't even do that right. I always end up a week short before my next doc appt so I'm in full withdrawals monthly. I'm usually sick the last week of every month. I may be apart of the 25% who stays a druggy. So don't feel bad, there's a lot of us out here and there trying to live as a struggling addict too. God Bless ....also when you feel inspired to quit for yourself and not anyone else then you know you've got a great shot at recovery. As much as I adore my son I can't even quit for him. Make your recovery first priority.

For all the H & opiate addicts out there, please get on suboxone. It will GIVE YOU YOUR NORMAL LIFE BACK, yes the way you were prior to your addiction. You'll be able to function. Granted you will have an addiction to suboxone but it is FAR easier to detox from and the detox (you can actually make do it while working if your job isn't too labor intensive). I was a F-in mess popping all sorts of opiate pills (no H) but everyday I was hustling for pills. Now I get my script, work, live a normal life, and am planning to get off the subs within next 6 months. Also an 8mg/2mg Suboxone will last you 2-3 days and you'll have no cravings AT ALL. After that you may get antsy. Sorry so outta order but if this helps 1 person, WELL WORTH IT!!!!

I really feel you on this I am on bunavail if I cannot afford to pay for my bunavail I use h I hate having to do that but the withdrawal is so bad so I try my hardest to stay doing good for me and my family and stay at a bunavail doctor I was on Suboxone for 7 years I prefer bunavail it helps a whole lot better you don't have to take as much and it last a whole lot longer but it only has a 0.7 blocker
