Brevital Cost

How much should an injection of this stuff cost in a hospital environment? They knocked me out for 5 minutes for a failed cardioversion and charged > $2k for the Brevital!

Breavital contains Methohexital sodium, it is a short acting anesthetic.

As to how much it should cost, that is entirely up to the hospital. There is no hard and fast rule that says any drug should only cost a certain amount. Each hospital has its own formula, that starts with how much they pay for their supply, broken down by dosages.

On top of that, other costs are factored in, such as the syringe, the surrounding medical care, the cost of the salary of the person for the time they had to take to give it to you and etc.

All of these factors can add up, really fast, to very high amounts for medications administered in a hospital setting.

Even when they have to give you a pill, that you swallow yourself, they have to cover the doctor's time to write the order, the pharmacy delivering it, the nurse who hands it to you and watches you take it and etc.

In comparison, picking up medications at the pharmacy and taking them yourself is super cheap.
