Breastfeeding While On Xanax

I know a women who takes Xanax 1mg 3x/day routinely. She also breastfeeds her child 2-3x/day. Is this ok? Please advise.

When I eas pregrant my gyno did not want me to take even a asprin or tylenol what dr is stupid to perscribe her xanax cause what I read about it you can die from going off it without medical supervision and what she takes goes to the milk that the baby is eating everything a mother puts in her body comes out in her milk and that includes alcholol please tell her to get her dr to take her off them in a hospital setting the baby will be addicted to xanax when she weans he or she I have seen babies like this and I think thats what causes adhd in kids also can not understand why her dr allows this.

I stopped taking my xanax as soon as I was pregnant just to be sure. But yes breastfeeding on xanax is definitely something I would consider and I love xanax :)

It is usually not the best choice to take while breastfeeding, according to FDA warnings, since it has been known to cause some effects of the infant, such as sedation, and possibly nausea, though neither have been know to be dangerous, as long as the mother only take the medication as prescribed.

The FDA warns that it also carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and irritability.

How are the woman and her infant doing, now? Is she on any other medications?
