Bought Controlled Medicine With Same Paper Prescription
UpdatedI got a diet controlled prescription from my doctor to try and see if it would help me loose weight, this was the first time I got a diet controlled medicine or a controlled medicine for that matter besides the one I got after I had my second daughter. Anyway I got home and did what I always do, made a copy of the prescription so I could have in file to keep track of what I have been prescribed, etc. Here's the problem: I left copy prescription at my home desk because it was late afternoon when I got back from doctor visit. I had the original one in my wallet, went to Target pharmacy and got prescription filled. A week goes by and I can't find the bottle of the medicine I bought and this is because I had forgot to start taken it. I saw the copy of the prescription on my desk and thought that I had not filled prescription. I was going on a business trip, not far from where I live meaning in the same state. I took it with me and went to a Walgreens since I use Target as my primary and Walgreens as my secondary pharmacies, and filled out the prescription. A week or so later I found the original bottle from Target!!!!!! My question is: will my doctor or I for that matter get in trouble since it was the same prescription, same medicine, etc. but filled out at two different pharmacies? I used my credit card to pay because insurance doesn't cover diet pills so that part is good. However I'm extremely worried that my doctor will get in trouble. What do I do? I thought about going back to Target which is the original bottle that I never opened and tell them what happened.... Or go to my doctor and tell him what happened. Which one should I do? And most importantly since prescription was filled for the same controlled diet medicine by two different pharmacies wouldn't me and my doctor get in trouble with whatever authority in US checks for controlled medicine? Please advise. Thanks

Hello, Isabella! How are you?
It isn't likely that your doctor will get in trouble, though he'll probably drop you as a patient and be warned to be more careful with his prescribing practices. The pharmacy that filled the photo copy could also get in trouble, because they are supposed to have the original written one in order to fill a controlled substance, under FDA regulations.
Controlled substance prescriptions are tracked via a government database, it doesn't matter how far apart the pharmacies are, or if you paid cash.
It would be best to come clean with your doctor and see how they suggest you proceed from there.
Is there anything else I can help with?
