I have been taking 20 mg of xarelto for about three months for A-fib. I have suddenly been seeing a lot of blood in my urine. My urine is now bright red. It has been this way for about three weeks. I also have pain in my kidney area and lower back especially when I wake up in the morning. I went to my urologist and he took a scan looking for a kidney stone which came back negative. He is going to do another scan with contrast. I have seen that side effects of xarelto can be kidney problems, blood in the urine, and pain in the kidney area. Could this be caused by my taking xarelto?

Yes, it could be due to the Xarelto, according to the FDA, but it is very important that you continue the rest of the exams to discover the root cause of the problem. You may need to stop taking it, or to switch to a different medication.
Have you experience any other side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, or headaches?
