Bleeding While Taking Medroxyprogesterone

I have been having super heavy periods all my life. It's usually been controlled by the pill, but the one that worked for me was pulled off the market. Last year, I literally bled from Jan Sept. With just a few days of no bleeding. I finally (I'm stubborn) went to the dr, and they gave me the Iud (mirena) That seemed to help, until this last few months. I hurt, hurt so bad, and bled like crazy. My body ended up expelling the iud and I instantly felt better. Unfortunately the bleeding came back with a vengeance. I went to the dr and couldn't see my Dr, he was out of town. The one Dr that I saw gave me a script for medroxyprogesterone. 10 MG daily. When I started taking it, I was told to try 1/2 a pull and I stopped bleeding, almost instantly. Now about 10 days later I started bleeding again. I've been really cautious about taking it at the same time etc.....is this normal? I'm so sick of feeling like this....its so frustrating.

Hello, Jackie! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having.

Yes, that can be a normal side effect, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and weight gain.

Have you tried any other oral contraceptives to get this under control? There are many available.
