Birth Defects From Bendectine

During pregnancy 40 yrs ago I was prescribed Bendectin. Caused urinary groos defects in my child. He has many physical limitations & medical issues as well as psychiatric illnesses. What other birth defects beside kidney defects has Bendectine known to have caused?

My son was born in 1973. I was told Benedictine. He was born with gross kidney malformations , pyeloric Stenosis and as a young adult developed psychiatric illnesses. No one in my family had these health issues and I strongly suspect this medication. I would have endured the intense nausea if he could have lived a normal life. I wish I had ignored the Doctor's assurance that it was safe.

I'm very sorry to hear about the challenges your child was facing after being exposed to Bendectine. I noticed that you were speaking about him in the past tense, stating that "if he could have lived a normal life"… are you insinuating that he passed away due to these birth defects that developed over time?

The New York Times actually has an article posted on their webpage back from 1983 stating that over 300 legal cases were pending against the manufacturer, with claims pertaining to deformed babies born from mothers who previously took the drug.

I don't know if you've already considered the possibility of taking legal action against the manufacturing company, but you'd probably have to speak with an attorney to find out exactly what you need in order to put a legitimate case together (i.e documents stating that you were prescribed it *if you even happen to still have those, or anything else that could help prove that Bendectine was the cause).

I took Bendectin for a few weeks for nausea in 1976. My daughter has no problems related to the med.

Hi there, I know this is a very old post. My brother was born in 1969. My mother took a version of this medication for morning sickness called debendox. He was born with severe club feet, undescended testes. He also has intellect issues, has developed epilepsy, haemochromotosis (too much iron in the blood) and now lymphoma. He basically has suffered from day one.

I took this same medication in 1978 - 1979. When my son was born, one of his testicles were not descended. It took 1 year to fall. At 3 years old, he had to have that very testicle removed. He had Yolk Sac Cancer. I have always thought the medication was at fault. Anyone else have boys born with this type of problem?

Where can I find out more while living in Scotland? My daughter's abnormalities and numerous and profound. The impact on her life and the whole family was catastrophic and is still hard to bear 42 years onwards.

I had a son who died in 1967. He was alright until he was 5 months old. He developed pneumonia which kept getting bad. He went to a 2 hospitals. I was told he would die. He had dysgammaglobulinemia (he lacks Tcells which is things to keep him immune from the diseases). He was the boy in the bubble. He wasn’t called that but the boy in the bubble had the same thing. He ended up Madison Children Hospital in 1966-1967. He was 16 months old. I’m 75 now. I have all the letters from that time. I was given that medication in the Vietnam era by the army doctors. I hope this give you what you wanted to know.
