Birth Control Tri Sprintec

This is the first month I've been on birth control and I was told to start it right away, and I did, so 2 weeks into my first pack I started my period, but before it started I had 2 or 3 days of terrible cramping, which is why I went on birth control in the first place, I figured it was normal and kept taking the pills once a day but the cramping hasn't gone away, normally my periods are 3 days long but so far it's been a week and hasn't stopped plus the 3 days and in total my cramps have been far worse than they ever have been before, and the blood that is coming out is bright red and thin, normally my period blood is dark and thick, I don't know if this is normal but I can't handle the cramping much longer.

Hello, Kirsten! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the problems you're having.

Those can be normal side effects of oral contraceptives, as listed by the FDA, along with nausea, headache and weight changes.

However, the cramping shouldn't be that severe. This may not be the right oral contraceptive for you to try. Have you informed your doctor? You may need to try a different one.
