My doctor told me to take my first pill as soon as my period strted, how long till it is effective ?

I started Loestrin 24 Fe this month. I just finished my second week, meaning I am halfway through my first pack. Last night I had sex with my boyfriend, and we used a condom as backup. But the condom broke, and he said he ejaculated before he pulled out. The info sheet that came with my birth control says that the birth control should have been effective after the first 7 days, so I should be fine. But I also see people saying its not effective until the second pack. I am nervous...should I take Plan B, just to be sure?

My doctor put me on loestrin today but i wanted to see everyones comments about it before i started taking it, im scared i dont want any acne or weight gain.....iam trying to lose weight not gain, and i have a small acne problem. Should i take it and see how it works or what? Help anyone......say something lol. Thanks!

Okay, for anyone else seeking this information…

In regards to the first questions, if you start oral contraceptives on the first day or your period, then you are protected immediately, since it will prevent ovulation, so you will not release an egg during the upcoming cycle.

However, if you start it at any other time, then you have to take it for a full 7 days, before you will be protected. Thus, you would need to use some back up form of protection for that first week.

On to Sheena's questions… yes, the only thing you can really do is take it and see how it works for you. There is a risk of experiencing acne and weight gain, but it doesn't happen to everyone that takes it.

I have also been onlo lorstrin fe birth controlfor a month and a week now and I ALWAYS take my pill everyday at the same time, but yesterday I didn't have my cell phone on me with the alarm that reminds me to take it. I then remembered I hadn't taken it and it was an hour and 19min late. Is this considered a missed pill? Should I take another just to be sure? I am sexually active and I had unprotected sex last week. Could I be pregnant? Answers please idk what to do!

You should use the plan B if you have doubt. No, it does not make the birth control ineffective, it actually does nothing to the daily birth control.

If you took it at the beginning of your period, it should be effective pretty much immediately. The way birthcontrol works is that it basically prevents your body from making a new egg. So your period gets rid of the old egg. And your pills give you hormones to make your body think it is already pregnant, so you don’t need another egg.
Its probably safer if you take it for a month or so before you rely on it alone for protection, but for this one time, you are probably alright.

Note, the highest risk of getting pregnant is the week before your period. So. If i understand your post correctly, be careful next week, and until after your next period, okay?
And be sure to take your pills, every day, on time.
