Best Way To Detox From Methadone?

I have been going to a Methadone clinic for four months now, taking 40 mg a day. I want to stop because I can't be like this all my life. I am a 51 year old male (very healthy). So what's the best way to detox from Methadone? Lowering the dosage? Or is there other options, like the so called fast detox (one day detox)? Or is there another way? Please help me find a way. Hello I know how you feel. Your lucky bacause you are on such a low low dose. I would suggest 5mg every other week. If you feel sick request to remain at the same dose until your body gets use to it. NO MATTER WHAT DON'T GO BACK UP!! Drink Calomile tea,works wonders. Valuims are good to take at night, but remember those are additive too. I would sometimes mix Thera FluCough and Flu>ix with the tea and honey. You should be off before you know it. Hope I helped. They aslo have a pill ver expensive "buprenorphine"

I have been going to the methadone clinic for nine months but lost my job so I can no lonnger. Afford it they are dropping me 5mg a day I already feel sick the. Whole reason I stay on drugs is cause every time I tried to quit I couldn't handle withdrawlin and noew I have to withdrawl from methadone does anyone have any advice I don't wanna end back up an addict I am scared

Go get on emergency medical. Work out payment plan. GA /general assistance provides Medi-cal which will pay for your methadone.

I have done this on afew occasions no fun. I would go 2 a week or 5 every other. B12 is good, plenty of water. If I had restless legs I would take a hot shower. If you are trying to go without any scripts try over th counter benadryl. I have had doctors tell me this. Remember it is one day at a time. Stay away from the people and places. Don't go back up, stop if you need to. At first you might be able to drop 5 or 10 but hold it a good week. Good Luck.

I was on 150 ml. a day for 17 years.I got off in 6 weeks,without any symptoms beyond some bone ache and a few chills.No vomiting,diarrhoea and some sleep every night. Lofexidine (tradename Britlofex) is derived from Subutex but has no narcotic effect,so you're more than happy to stop taking it.You feel weak,your blood pressure is low and your tongue feels like a dirty carpet,but in return you will get clean so easily it feels like cheating.The first fortnight,during which we cut down to 20ml. before jumping off,we actually felt high.You will need someone around,and my girlfriend was sicker than I was,but that was due to getting her first period in years and losing 2 pints of blood.Over here,in England,doctors are starting to wake up to this drugs extraordinary abilities,but I still hear of people having to plead with their drug workers for it.There seems to be very little activity in the States,which is nothing short of a tragedy.The manufacturers website features a protocol for withdrawal from differing doses of methadone and heroin.I can't stress enough how much this drug has done for us.Do everything in your power to get hold of it.It's the closest thing to a magic bullet we'll see in our lifetime.Pain free detox is available.

Hi, I am very familiar with the Methadone clinic I have been part of it entirely too long. If you are on a stable dose now I would suggest coming down slowly (the medically assisted approach their at the clinic you are presently going too), it will be done properly and safely. I am telling you, you almost have this LICKED! You are so smart to think about this NOW, DO NOT GO UP! Start slowly tapering, per the Dr at the clinic, and it will happen for you. If they suggest switching to another drug DO not!! Just come down without being dependent on another drug, it is SO SO MUCH EASIER! Trust me! This is my 2 go around and this time I am coming off of everything. I was where you are now and I let them talk me into switching, if you are truly stable and everything in life is going pretty smooth then just come completely off of all if possible, it will be so, much more worth it! Great job, don't give up! This will save you so much pain and heart ache and MONEY in the long run! Good Luck & hang in there!

Methadone is not a medication that you can just quit taking. A family member of mine is on Methadone and has decided to try and quit. He has went to the clinic and asked that they allow him to go down 10mg's. You have to go slow but you will be okay once you basically get down to nothing. There were times that my BIL had to go back up another 5mgs. simply b/c of the sweating, iritation etc. Normally the clinic would tell you to go down 5mg's for approx. 2-3wks. Then again drop another 5mg's for 3-4wks. You carry this on until you are at lets' say 5mg's. Then again they will lower you to abt. 3mg's, then down to 2mg's, then to 1mg's. Methadone is a very addictive drug and this is why they say to take it slow. Let's say you were at 80mg's and you dropped to 70mg's. This may/may not work for you. If you find that you are sweating alot, being irritable etc. you have dropped to much. So the next time you see your Dr. at the clinic you can tell him you went down to much, he will up your dose by 5mg's. Everyone's body is different, not one is the same. If you are able to go down 10mg's and feel fine, great!! However don't go the following wk. and say you want to drop another 10mg's. Unfortunately this is a long progress but in the end it will work, that's a promise. Like I said if you find that your side effects are bad then go back to the Dr. Dropping 10mg's doesn't seem very much but to some it is. I totally understand where you are coming from and my heart goes out to you. After being off of it (another relative) had so much more ambition. Wakes up feeling fantastic. I was on 30 mg of methadone for 2 years. I very slowly dropped down to 2 mg. Now I need to be off in 3 weeks. I'm moving out of state and need to pack and get things ready. I also have another trip out of state planned in a week. Plus I'm working 50 hours a week up until I leave. Any suggestions on how to make this more tolerable and still be able to function daily would be helpful. Sitting in a room for 2 weeks to detox isn't an option for me.
