Hi, I am Bill. I took a regular dose of Benicar. However I have still a high blood pressure. How long does it take to work?
For anyone else seeking information on lower cost alternatives, if they are taking a blood pressure medication that costs too much, I'd like to add some details for you.
First of all, there are well over 100 blood pressure medications on the market in various classes. So, if you are having bad side effects from one, or find that it is cost prohibitive, there are others you can try that are available as generics for much lower prices.
Some doctors just prescribe whatever the current popular drug is and they have no idea how much it actually costs, or if a patient's insurance will cover it. In most cases, you really have to make them pay attention to the facts.
Additionally, diet and exercise can also help improve your blood pressure levels. You may want to look up information on the DASH diet, it's fantastic, tasty and proven to help with blood pressure issues.
And not all of the medications cause the same side effects, so if one is causing you to experience a dry cough, then talk to your doctor and insist they allow you to try something else.
I have been there and I had many blood pressure medications make me miserable, I didn't get the help I needed until I finally got someone who understood that some people are very sensitive to some medications and can't handle them, so you have to let them try something else.
It took about a year of trial and error, but we finally found a combination that works great for me, along with diet and exercise, that do not make miserable.
And if you're female, you should also have your hormone levels checked, especially if you're over 35, or suffering from any type of PMS, PCOD/PCOS, perimenopause or menopausal symptoms. High levels of estrogen, with not enough Progesterone, which is what usually causes these issues, can also cause high blood pressure.
Thus, in some cases you may see significant improvement just by getting your hormones back in balance, which can also be done naturally, without medications.
Please note, I am not telling anyone to go off of your medications. In many cases, they are the only safe way to bring your blood pressure down fast enough to safe levels and stopping them abruptly can be very dangerous, since it could cause a rebound effect of elevated blood pressure and heart rate.
But what I am saying is that you can help yourself and by doing so, you may cut down on how many medications you need. Some people have been able to completely get it under control naturally and taper off of their medications completely, under supervision of their doctor.
Are there any questions or comments?
Is there anything I can help with?

I have elevated blood pressure and the only way to get it down is the three drugs I have listed. I tried numerous others with no luck.
I take 40mg Bencar tab in am and 20mg in pm - also take Cardia XT an Coreg, cost for Bencar is too expensive is there any other drug that would work in place of the Bencar? Thank you
