The general rule that the NIH lists for antibiotic is that, if is working, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours, and you should start to see improvement after taking it for a full 3 days.
The typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.
However, even if you've had some improvement, if things start seeming to get worse, again, you should consult a medical professional, because you may need a longer course of treatment, or to try a different antibiotic.
