Beer's Criteria

Updated

Why are doctors giving this so much weight? I thought patient care was individualized. If a "drug" is taken as it's supposed to be taken without any problem and the patient is receiving relief, why deny use of it? Only because it's written by some "group of experts" that it could cause other unwanted side effects? I've got an idea! Let's get rid of cars! No more unwanted car accidents, right??

Make sense to me, no DUI, traffic jams, and less pollution. I like how you think. But getting back to Beer's, it states "potentially inappropriate" so you'd think that means something. Are our doctors getting too busy (or lazy) to think for themselves? Let's hope that is not the case cause the Healthcare system is messed up enough as it is.

@launica,

NOTE: this is a different David responding by the way lol

You have a valid point about certain doctor's not making balanced judgement calls when it comes to weighing potential risk factors between how a drug is taken and the idea of developing any unwanted side effects as a result. And your analogy of unwanted car accidents is a good example!

I personally don't believe doctor's should deny writing a script for any med(s) unless there is a serious drug interaction that is both well-documented and observed through clinical trials - that has a high probability of occurring from combining two or more substances that contradict or exacerbate one another in various ways.

The decision to take minor risks however (especially when you're doing just fine), should be granted to the patient at their own request and understanding of possible side effects.... After all, we patients/consumers are the only one's who can truly take responsibility for our own individual well-being.
