Bad Vaginal Smell With Estring

I am post menopausal. I was prescribed Estring because intercourse was becoming very painful. I used almost 2 rounds of Estring (3 months + 1.5) Estring really helped rebuild my atrophic vagina. Being intimate is not fine but I have a new problem: a terrible vaginal smell. When i remove the ring, the smell disappears. Interestingly, i didn't have this smell the first 3 months. I know that the smell comes from the ring because when i remove it, the smell disappears. I have since switched to Vagifem and the smell is about the same just that since i use Vagifem twice a week, the smell recedes between the two insertions of the vaginal ovule. I wonder if other women have experienced this issue with vaginal estrogen.

I experienced the same thing recently. I had the Estring in for 2 months without incident, and then started to notice a thin discharge with a vile odor. This situation only increased, more and more disgusting.

I finally removed the ring yesterday. I have a gyno appointment next week, and hope to find out what can be done.

I hate vaginal dryness, but smelling like a rotten vag of potatoes is worse!

Yes! I have seriously foul smelling discharges on the Estring.I never knew it caused weight gain either!I am goung to ask my gyno for an alternative to Estring because I suffer from painful intercourse and Linchen schlerosis.

I also use Estring and after 2 to 3 months the smell was horrible when I’d have any discharge. I’m going to ask my Gyno what’s going on.

I just got my Estring inserted. My urine is disgusting. Stinks like something died. I am not sexually active. 81 and don't need it!

Look into a natural hormone replacement! I get T and E2 bioidentical pellets every 4 mo. I’m 62 and feel like I did in my 20’s.

Update: unable to keep ring in. Urogynecoligist said I had short vagina. Back to cream.

Oh wow I was googling for some answers and came across this site. Thank you to all because I thought I was sick. The fishy smell when I peed was unbearable and I could not stand it anymore. The ring popped out on its own when I went #2 . Yes I was constipated. Glad it's out now and no smell as soon as it came out. Going to see my gyno soon.
