Bad Taste, Sleep Paralysis

I've been on Lunesta 3 mg for about a week now. The bad taste is Horrible (!), but twice now I've had what I think is sleep paralysis. I am awake, as I can see and hear things going on around me, but cannot move. I cannot move, cannot speak or scream for what feels like 10-15 minutes before finally being able to move. This has never happened before taking Lunesta, and after coming to myself I am in absolute panic because my limbs refuse to listen to my brain. The 2nd time I actually thought I might be dead. Is this a normal side effect? I haven't been able to find anything related? Can someone PLEASE tell me something???

Yes, most insomnia medications can cause things like that as side effects, although it seems like you're awake, you actually aren't and it falls under the abnormal dreams side effect.

Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may also include hypertension, euphoria, memory impairment and headache.

However, if it scares you, then you should consult your doctor as it may be best for you to try a different medication.

Hi! Thanks for replying. The sleep paralysis happened again this morning and I and my husband can say for absolute fact that I was indeed awake, just unable to move or speak. I felt myself come awake, as per usual, I could see him beside me reading. I go to reach for him, can't move. My heart rate elevates, breathing increases, can't speak. My husband knows when I'm having a panic attack and looks at me and speaks to me. I Still can't move or speak. While it Feels like hours, the episodes only last maybe 2 minutes tops. I finally got to be able to move and he was quite concerned. We've discussed quitting the Lunesta and trying something else.
