I had a stem cell transplant almost 4 years ago. I have been on bactrim, diflucan, tacrolimus and valtrex for 4 years. I am having pain in my upper arm, thoracic spine and cervical spine. It's muscle/tendon issues not bone. Does anyone have any info on bactrim causing these symptoms or any of my other drugs? ## Yes, this medication can cause that in some people as a side effect, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. I have been diagnosed with having a mycobacterium infection. I am currently working asking one tablet in the morning and one in the afternoon to the Bactrim DS 800/160mg. Is there anything stronger? I have just taken the pm dose of day four. Should I be seeing signs this medication working by now? My doctor says I may have to have surgery to remove infection if the Bactrim doesn't work. ## This is a very potent antibiotic. Can I double up on my first dose of Bactrim to jump start the attack on my infection? ## I would be very careful about doubling up on the first dose, due to the fact of possible allergic reaction to the medication, which is significant'y higher with sulfur based drugs. ## Though this is an old post, I would like to add that doubling up is not a good idea, for more reasons than just the worry of an allergic reaction. I am prescribed Bactrim DS 160/800mg (2) Double Strength tabs every 12 hrs. for a A.Baumannii infection from the OR which took me back to the OR to remove the infection now as I heal I am on Double Strength 800mg x 12 hrs. I had a boil which bursted 2 days back right below my thigh portion. It has formed a bump (swelled) and is painful. Since it is right below my thigh it's hard to sit. On September 6, 2016 I was prescribed Bactrim DS 800-160 for an ingrown hair turning turning into an abscess. Today about an hour ago I've developed hives and a rash on my throat. Am I having a possible allergic reaction? I took benadryl about 20 minutes ago and it is still the same if not worst. ## I am anaphylactic to the antibiotic but didn't know till the second dose in a year that both times caused aseptic meningitis. The second time also caused my throat to swell. I took 75mg of Benadryl and 20 mg Pepcid (also a antihistamine).
