I just had jaw surgery and developed staph infection (red blotchey acne like white heads) on my chin. I've had this before and taken Bactrim for it in the past. However I've been prescribed 1 pill twice a day for a week. I'm half way through my prescription and I don't see any improvement. Any suggestions? Will it work eventually? ## Hello, Simone! How are you? Has there been any improvement, yet? The general rule with antibiotics is that if they are working, you shouldn't see any worsening after being on them for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement after taking them for a full 3 days. If there is no improvement after that time, then you should consult your doctor. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nau...

Been using bactrim for several days, abscess seems to remain the same. Could I be anti resistant to antibiotics? ## Hello, Crowe! How are you? How many days have you been taking it? The general rule for antibiotics, according to the NIH, is that if they are working, you shouldn't see any worsening after being on them for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement, after taking them for a full 72 hours. If it's been longer than that, with no change, you may need to try a different antibiotic. The U.S. FDA lists the typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. ## I just started taking the BactrimDs 800-160 for an ingestion under my eye how quick will this take I have swelling under my eye

Is it safe for me to take bactrim and hydrochlorothiazide hours apart? They were both prescribed to me and I am nervous about how to take them... Both the doctor and the pharmacists said it was ok to take them together, but I'm not so sure if that's the case as I read that you aren't supposed to take these pills together. I have a bad uti. ## Where did you read that? From my research, I did not find any problems or interactions, according to FDA warnings. The typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Sometimes, we overthink and over research things. It is always best to listen to our doctors and pharmacists. Are you on any other medications?

Yeah I've developed a staph infection and I got Bactrim DS for it I got 30 tablets but my doctor told me to use it for a week and then stop using it and the pharmacist messed up and put on there take one tablet a day and I think it's supposed to be take two tablets by mouth once a day. So I mean I don't have any more staph infections or anything but they come back quite regularly so because I've got hepatitis c. So I know now that next time I need to take two bactrim a day instead of one. ## It is always best to follow your doctor's instructions, since pharmaceutical errors do occur. If in doubt, there is no harm in calling your doctor's office to double check. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, head...

Hello I have been taking this medication for 2 weeks. I have been itching for the 2 weeks and have suddenly developed severe itching and hives on my whole body... can this be an allergic reaction after 2 weeks? ## Hello, Kim! How are you? I'm very sorry about the hives! And yes, many milder allergic reactions to antibiotics tend to pop up after you've been taking it for awhile, rather than right away. I found out I was allergic to Bactrim after being on it for 10 and a half days, with one dose left to go. You need to stop taking it, since such allergic reactions tend to get worse with repeated exposure to the substance and contact your doctor, you may need to try a different antibiotic and this allergy will need to be listed in your medical records. Typical side effects, as list...

Hi. I've been meaning to post for a couple of weeks. In early January I was diagnosed with a staph infection and prescribed Bactrim. I knew nothing about it so I took my full dose. A few days after I finished all the pills, I had every negative side effect imaginable. Very light headed, very nauseous, dizzy, headaches, muscle weakness, upset stomach, etc. I also got a UTI which I believe was caused by the Bactrim. I was fine each day until around noon, and then I only felt like laying down for the rest of the day, and I'm a busy mother. I am here to say that it DOES go away. Mine lasted for about 4 to 5 weeks! I was a nervous wreck thinking it would never go away. But it went away (the upset stomach and diarrhea honestly took 3 months). But I am great now. I did start probiotics...

I took bactrim for a bladder infection on on the third day of the antibiotics I had unprotected sex with my husband. I have had the implanon since November 2010. What are the chances of the implanon becoming less effective while taking bactrim and is it possible that i could be pregnant? I don't get periods so i have no idea when my missed period would be. ## In a comparison of birth control methods in terms of effectiveness in preventing pregnancy, Implanon is actually one of the most effective forms of birth control currently available. The failure rate for Implanon is about 0.0449%, as observed in the UK, where only 584 women have reported unwanted pregnancies out of 1.3 million who have used Implanon since 1999. So yes, it is possible to get pregnant, but very unlikely. Keep in ...

Thus, if this is continuing, you should return to your doctor, as you may need to try a different antibiotic. The FDA lists the typical side effects of most antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Has there been any change?

I have a heart condition that I take medicine for and I have a toothache and I want to know when I can take Bactrim DS? ## Has your doctor or dentist prescribed it for you? The typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. However, you will still need to see a dentist to have the underlying issue that has caused the toothache correct.

I took low dose Bactrim for 5 weeks for a UTI. While on it I started having vaginal burning. Called Dr about it who advised me to stop taking it. That was almost 4 weeks ago and still having vaginal pain and burning. Vulva is all red and inflamed. Very little itching. Tested negative for yeast and bacteria. Can't understand why it's gotten worse when I've been off the drug for 4 weeks! ## Are you on any other medications? Are you actively engaging in intercourse? Do you frequently take tub baths, or use a hot tub? There are various reasons why this could occur, according to FDA and NIH reports. Are you diabetic? Do you have any other diagnosed medical conditions? ## Was also on Uribel at the time for bladder pain. Went off that 3 weeks ago. No to all other questions.

I don't even know where to start. I have sores all over my legs and arms that have gotten infected. Behind my right ear I drained a big cyst and a smaller cyst (which at the time I thought was a pimple), my gums have infection coming out and I had either one huge everywhere or a couple cysts in my vagina that have drained. Some of the sores have healed and others have gotten worse. The skin by the corners of my nails where they are dried and cracked are starting to release infection. Dr gave me Bactrim without a visit. I'm scared it is something worse than he believes it to be. ## Hello, Jamie! How are you? Has there been any change?
