Bactrim: Throat Rash And Hives, Allergic Reaction?

On September 6, 2016 I was prescribed Bactrim DS 800-160 for an ingrown hair turning turning into an abscess. Today about an hour ago I've developed hives and a rash on my throat. Am I having a possible allergic reaction? I took benadryl about 20 minutes ago and it is still the same if not worst.

I am anaphylactic to the antibiotic but didn't know till the second dose in a year that both times caused aseptic meningitis. The second time also caused my throat to swell. I took 75mg of Benadryl and 20 mg Pepcid (also a antihistamine). Bactrim is so bad in Europe they have banned it but in America that's one of the #1 antibiotics they prescribe. Stop the prescription and call your dr. They should have someone on call for the weekend or go to the urgent care. Never take that again and make sure you write it down as an allergy. It has sulfa in it.

It's nice to hear that Europe banned Bactrim and I hope America gets on board soon as well. Personally, I've never heard of or read about anyone taking Bactrim who didn't end up experiencing some sort of side effect or allergic reaction; leading me to believe that the probability of symptoms occurring may be unusually high for this particular antibiotic (though I'm not quite sure why that is). But if you believe you're experiencing an allergic reaction to anything you take, definitely discontinue use and contact your doctor.

According to the US National Institute of Health, rash and hives are telltale signs of an allergy.
