Bactrim Muscle Joint

I took Bactrim about two months ago and approximately 4 days after quitting the drug I developed severe muscle and joint pain. I stopped the pills 3 pills early because I developed a rash and had insomnia and was nauseated. I am still experiencing muscle and joint pain, but it has improved somewhat. Doctors are hesitant to blame the drug for these effects. Since it has been sinking I am wondering if anyone else has had these experiences and/or for this long.

No, I'm not aware of such reactions to this medication lasting that long. I had an allergic reaction to it myself a couple of years ago and most symptoms went away within a week or two of stopping it, though the rash took about a month.

The FDA lists the typical allergic reactions as possibly including hives, itchy skin rash, swelling and swollen glands.

Are you on any other medications?

I am currently experiencing the same muscle and joint pains after using Bactrim DS. I went thru the entire 10 day course even though the pain started about half way thru. It has been 6 weeks since I finished the course and I still have the pain. Drs did put me on 9 days of prednisone and it did cut the pain in half but I am still in a lot of pain. My Doctors attribute it to an allergic reaction to the drug. They say I have inflammation thru my whole body. Can you tell me if your pain ever went away and how long it took?

Hi Scott, not sure if you will see this, but if you do. I took a 7 day 2x day coursetoward the end my jaw became painfull and swollen in the tmj region and terribly in my neck on both sides, days passed the pain subsided on my left jaw then moved to the right with a bit less intensity,but bad. then my shoulder locked up as if i had painted four houses in one day....days went by...long story shorter pain has travelled to groin both sides ,other shoulder, back,headaches, feeling warm at times, sore throat in various areas etc. this is in a few weeks. my question is has yours subsided or did you get any more treatment ? I am sure at this point that it is the bactrim, thanks, Jerry

Bactrim definitely causes joint and muscle pain, started the 4th day on it and getting worse. It seems to be helping the skin infection but not sure I can tolerate the side effects before finishing treatment. I plan to call my pharmacist and doctor tomorrow. If I knew the pain would go away I would try and finish the bactrim.
