The drug in description known as Bactrim contains a combination of Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim, and is a sulfonamide antibacterial combination in the ratio of 1 to 5, used in the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections.

The Dr. said I have a staff infection. I do not know how I got it? Is this the right medicine to take for a staff infection? Thank you. I also have a heart condition with a defibrillator in me.
P.S., The Dr. said it is Cellulitis. Is Bactrim the right medicine to get rid of this? It is bad! Thank you.
Hi Monte,
I'm not a doctor, but I can help point you in the right direction with information. Based on research I gathered, I found that Bactrim can be prescribed for Cellulitis, although Its effectiveness for that is questionable in one review I've read (i'll be on the lookout for more). The strongest antibiotics are usually necessary for these conditions.
I've also gathered that the following other drugs can be used (there may be more):
Augmentin, Penicillin VK, Azithromycin, Cephalexin, Dicloxacillin, Erythromycin, Moxifloxacin, Cefazolin.

Thank-You so much! My parents are very worried about me due to having the defibrillator in me. And with my heart condition. I think I picked this up when I went to see my heart Dr. I got sick the next day. So I went to the family Dr. He said any meds with Cillen on the end of the drug would not work for this cellulitis. I know I am very sick. And I thank you again for taking the time to look into this for me.
Thank you David! The Dr. has now put me on Cipro Levaquin. They made a hole in my very lower back and drained a bunch of gook out. It was very painful! I am very sick. Hot and sweating and chills. I am supposed to go back next week to have the Dr. take a look. they left a hole in my back way low about as big around as a marble. What has me concerned is that the FDA approved a new drug for cellulitis called Teflaro on Oct, 29th 2010. The Dr. said he has never heard of it. therefore was hesitant to use it. I also read on the FDA site that the Dr. takes a swab. Sends it to the lab and they test it to see which antibiotic would be best to use for it. The Dr. has not done that. And I cannot figure why? I cannot even sit down at my computer to do my job. I work online doing marketing. Do you have any idea how long it takes to get over this awful bacterial infection? Thanks so much!
I really feel for you and wish you a quick recovery. On average it can take anywhere between 2-6 weeks to clear up depending on how bad it is and the use of antibiotics. I read another Bactrim review, indicating that it took 1 month to clear for her while taking it. Hopefully that sheds some light for you!
Telfaro (Ceftaroline fossil) is manufactured by Forest Laboratories, Inc. It can also be used for such infections. Sounds like the Dr. hasn't been staying on top of his research to know what's out there.
More details about Telfaro are available at:

As far as the lab testing goes, does the FDA site state anything about this being a mandatory procedure? I'd hate to think he's slacking or something or maybe forgot to mention it. You should just mention it to see if it remains an option if things don't work out with your current medication. Let me know if there's anything else I can do or if you just need to chat!
