Bactrim F Dosage

Will a seven day dose work. I went to Mexico to buy it and the box only has 14 and the dosage is for 1 every 12 hours.

The dosing schedule for this drug is largely dependent on the severity of the type of infection you may be dealing with.

For example:

The usual adult dosage in the treatment of acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis is 1 Bactrim DS (double strength) tablet or 2 Bactrim tablets every 12 hours for 14 days.

For the treatment of traveler's diarrhea, the usual adult dosage is 1 Bactrim DS (double strength) tablet or 2 Bactrim tablets every 12 hours for 5 days.

The recommended dosage for patients with documented Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia is 75 to 100 mg/kg sulfamethoxazole and 15 to 20 mg/kg trimethoprim per 24 hours given in equally divided doses every 6 hours for 14 to 21 days.

As you can see, dosing really depends on what your dealing with. In general however, a consistent 7 day regime should be fine for something that isn't too severe. A qualified doctor should be the judge of that though.
