I, had to have my thyroid gland removed, as it had cancer cells in it.. I, have now recovered well, after radiation and I, am in remission.... I, have to take 75mg of levothyroxine, but find it keeps me from sleeping. Sometimes, the whole of the night. I did take a l00mg, but it wat reduced to the 75mg. Can anyone suggest anything, I, dont want to take habit forming sleeping pills. Am I, the only person spending the whole night awake.... I am ok the next day and manage to go to work.... I, feel I, am between a rock and a hard place.....I am seeing a consultant soon to discuss......

medical marijuana is a legitimate and effective alternitive to prescripiton (addictive) sleeping aids.
I underwent radioactive and my endoc put me onto hormone replacement.I was on synthroid 150mcg for 1 1/2 year but when I got here in USA the endo change my synthroid to generic levothyroxine. 4 months after taking this generic i noticed something unusual in my body.I had heart palpitations, high blood pressure, shortness of breath and had insomia.I cannot sleep the whole night for how many days now.I went a primary doctor and he lower my dosage to 112mcg but still in generic. It's more than 3 weeks now i still don't any changes still can't sleep the whole night but very active during the day.My questions is, can I lower my dosage on my own? The primary doctor prescribed me a sleeping pills called zolpidem but just for 1 week only and my insomia didn't go away yet.I called my endo for an appointment but it will not be until dec 16. Any advice would be a great help for me.thanks
I hope you are talking about mcg, micrograms and not mg miligrams. If you are taking miligrams, you are WAY overdosing without even a thyroid test.
You might wish to talk to your doctor or consultant about trying Ambien, it contains the active ingredient Zolpidem and is not known to be habit forming.
It is used for the short term treatment of insomnia.
It can cause some side effects, such as: nausea, dizziness, amnesia and dry mouth.

There are also some herbal remedies that are believed to help with insomnia, such as Melatonin and Valerian Root.
How long have you been on the medication? Most side effects do wear off after a few months, once your body adjusts to it.
