Avoiding The Complications Of Too Many Antibiotics

Updated March 29, 2023

I took a week's prescription of Augmentum (28 doses) followed by 8 days of Clindamycin....the former was for an infection in my sphenoid sinus, the latter for an emergency dental issue requiring a root canal. My sinus condition is still unresolved. I have been warned that too much antibiotic can cause an intestinal condition that is very dangerous. How soon would I be safe to start another antibiotic for the sinus condition?

You should follow your doctor's instructions on how, and when to take an antibiotic, and always finish each course of treatment, unless instructed otherwise.

The FDA warns that most antibiotics can cause side effects, which may include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash.

As to helping avoid complications, yogurt that has been made with live cultures can help, as can probiotic supplements, as long as your doctor approves.
