I was prescribed this for 8 days for cat bites on my hand. Twice a day. When should the swelling go down? ## Hello, Judy! How are you? The general rule for antibiotics is that if they're working for you, you should see no worsening of your condition, after taking them for a full 24 hours and improvement should be seen after a full 3 days. If it doesn't improve after that time, you should contact your doctor as you might require a different one. Is there anything else I can help with? ## How quickly should you feel side effects from oral 875mg of Augmentin?

Went to dentist last Monday for abscessed tooth. Prescribed Augmentin 3 per day. On Thursday, pain was worse. Dentist opened to tooth, put meds in tooth, and prescribed penicillin 4 per day. Also have cellulitis in face from middle of chin/lip up halfway to my jaw on left side. Pain is not as bad as it was before tooth was opened, but still hurts. Lip is beginning to swell. What should be my next step in recovery? Thanks! ## Hello, Ann! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. How long have you been taking the Penicillin? I have taken 2 augmentin 875-125 pills 12 hours apart. Is it safe for me to start azithromycin after 12 hours have lapsed since the last augmentin? ## Hello, Vern! How are you? Has your doctor instructed you to switch from one to the other? There aren't any problems with doing so, since they are both antibiotics. If you were taking them together, the Azithromycin could reduce the efficacy of the Amoxicillin. The FDA classifies these medications as antibiotics and typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you....everything is fine

My brother contracted cellulitis while hospitalized for hernia surgery three months ago. He was recently prescribed Augmentin to take twice a day for thirty days. Is that an unusually long time to take an antibiotic? Are there increased risk factors from taking it that long? ## Hello, Paula! How is you brother doing? No, the risks remain the same as if he were taking it for 7 to 10 days, he runs the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Sometimes, with a particularly bad infection, such as severe cellulitis, it is necessary to take a longer course of antibiotics and he should follow his doctor's instructions. Will this for medicine b effective for a thoat infection? ## This is the generic version of the antibiotic Augmentin, which is used to treat various types of infections. However, the problem is that you may not have enough to fully eradicate the infection, since a full course of treatment is needed, which would usually be about 10 days. That coupled with the fact that the presence of an infection hasn't been confirmed by a doctor creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, which is something you've already put yourself at risk of, if you didn't finish the full co...

does amox/k clav react adversely to dairy products? ## Hello, Cap21! How are you? No, there are no known issues between taking this antibiotic, which is a generic for Augmentin, and dairy products. It isn't that they react adversely, when there is an issue, it's just that dairy products coat the stomach and may prevent absorption of as much of the antibiotic as normal. However, as I said, it is not an issue with this particular one. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Last year I suffered a major toxicity to Tylenol and cannot take that drug. Last week I was prescribed augmentin 825. After six days on it, I am having so many symptoms that are similar to Tylenol toxicity. Are there any-active or nonmedicinal-ingredients common to both drugs? ## Hi Curious! If you are having the same symptoms as you did with the Tylenol, you really need to call your doctor right away. ## P.s. Augmentin is used to treat bacterial infections and I couldn't find that it contains Tylenol. Are you taking it with food?
