My father has been taking lipikind since last 12 years. Now, since last 2 years, He's suffering from Liver swelling even he has no bad habits such as drinking, smoking etc. He'd left taking it for a while. In that period, there's a positive response from liver and it function well. But there is an increase in Cholesterol levels. So, he started to take Lipikind again & again there's the same problem occurs with the liver. Is any other generic should be taken instead of Atorvastatin so that liver functions well? Please suggest.

I recently received a bottle of Atorvastatin from my pharmacy and it wreaks of the smell of alcohol. I thought it might be the medicine bottle so I put them in a different bottle and they still smell awful. I can also taste the alcohol. I take other meds and I do not taste or smell that anywhere else. I brought it back to the pharmacy and the pharmacist said he couldn't smell anything. I have since had others smell the medicine and they also smell that strong odor of alcohol. Either the pharmacist was lying to me or he had no sense of smell. I would say at least 20 people here at my home have smelled my atorvastatin and they all say they smell alcohol like the kind used for cleansing the skin before a shot. Would this drug show up as anything else in a panel? ## Can atorvastatin cause you to have a false positive reading on a urine test?? It came up as buprenorphine. ## Hmmm, a statin drug coming up as a synthetic opiate? That's very strange indeed. Are you on any other medications or supplements? I am trying to see if what you reported is even possible. It could always be a lab mixup too. What did your doctor say? ## I am researching the same problem. My wife showed positive for norbuprenorphine , she has never used it or had it prescribed. Her counselor said morphine might cause the false reading, she has a scrip for that. I cannot swallow pills. The instructions for taking Atorvastatin says do not crush or chew. Should I continue to take it this way? ## @flatball, From what I could gather, Atorvastatin only comes in tablet form, whereas you may just have to find a way to adhere to those instructions unless your doctor suggests otherwise. Another thought is to ask your doctor if dissolving the tablets in water would be an option as well? And lastly, if none of the above is suitable for your needs, then perhaps it would be best to find another alternative to Atorvastatin that comes in different dosage forms and without restrictions as to how it can be administered. A few medication names that might be worth considering in the same drug class of statins are: Simvastatin, Rosuvastatin, and Pravastatin - howe...
