Atorvastatin Mfg Ranbaxy
UpdatedAccording to today's NY Times, Lipitor generic by manufacturer Ranbaxy was recalled in November because of possible glass particles. Recall applied only to pharmacies, and consumers who already had the contaminated pills were advised to continue taking them unless a doctor advised against it.
Who was supposed to advise the consumer/patient?
How was your doctor to know of the contaminated pills?
I am on my last 90 day supply of Atorvastatin manufacturer Ranbaxy. I recently received my new supply of Atorvastatin from a different manufacturer Sandoz. Why? Is it conected to the recall and/or the contamination? My home delivery pharmacy is Express Scripts and my drug plan is through medicare via my union, UFT, plan.

Hi Thomas,
Many of these pharmaceutical companies have a strange way of going about a medication recall. I've noticed other products taken off the shelves just because of simple mispelling of a word on a package. I get the sense that these drug companies assume the consumer/patient is on the web all day researching this type of stuff. When in reality only a small percentage of patients (such as yourself) are open and aware of these mishaps.
This is something doctors should be aware of "before" choosing to prescribe it to you. It also makes me wonder how many patients are out there who have no clue that there could be glass fragments in their medication. Now the last person they can trust is their physician. Something as serious as this should probably be taken with legal action. I think the wording used in the recall sounds like it is really underplaying the seriousness of the matter.
Perhaps it's best that you now received Sandoz's version, but if you were to experience any strange complications over time, it would be easy enough to point the finger back at Ranbaxy.
