I WAS USING WARREN BRAND ALBUTEROL INHALERS. AND THESE WERE REPLACED WITH ASTHALIN INHALER, I AM NOT FEELING THE SAME LEVEL OF RELIEF NOW. WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS. I ALSO USE ADVAIR FOR LONG TERM. I HAVE NOTICED THIS WITHIN THE THREE WEEKS OF USE. TODAY I USED ASTHALIN TWICE AND MY CHEST STILL FELT TIGHT AFTER 20 MINUTES. I CAME HOME AND DID AN ALBUTEROL NEBULIZER TREATMENT. I ALSO USED NASONEX THIS MORNING.

Hi Joe,

There is really no way a doctor can know ahead of time how any medication can affect anyone. They can only assume that the new medication they prescribed you will be effective based on medical records, current health, age, what the condition is, whether or not any other medications are being taken at the same time, etc. Any of these factors as well as others can affect how you respond to this drug.

Albuterol and Asthalin contain the same active ingredient "Salbutamol"; however it is very likely that they each contain a different but similar set of "inactive" ingredients.
These supposed inactive ingredients are actually "active", and can certainly effect how the drug is metabolized and used by your body. This process effects the quality of the drug and how effective it is over another similar medication.

Based on this, my advice would be to openly discuss with your doctor how you feel with this new brand name and go over the inactive ingredients with him to determine what might be the cause of your concern.

As far as Advair and Nasonex go, I would think that it could be difficult to determine the success of Asthalin over Albuterol if you are taking all of these at the same time. I would also bring this up when you discuss the above information with your doctor.

I hope this helps!
