Are There Two Different Shaped Pills Common For Generic Percocet?
(Newest replies first)

I filled my Rx but didn't think to check it until a few days after I left the pharmacy. The bottle states it is an oblong white pill with "U15" on it and labels it as generic Percocet. It used to be a round white pill. Is this the same as my old generic RX for Percocet 5/325 or is it a different strength of some kind? if so, why would they change the shape of the pill? I keep them in my pill container in my purse, for emergency use of break through pain, and today I nearly took two at once, thinking they were regular extra strength Tylenol, that I also keep in the pill container! I hate to think what might have happened if I took two of these while at work! Is this a recent change to the generic pill for Percocet?

I have a round white tablet, not scored, with RP 10-325 which is Percocet. If I take half of it, would it be the same as taking A349, unscored, 5-325 in generic form. Will the two different pills turn up differently on a drug panel?
Hello, Layla! How are you?
This tablet is manufactured by Aurolife Pharma and they do list it as containing 5mgs of Oxycodone and 325mgs of Acetaminophen, so it is a generic for Percocet. The FDA lists this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
When medications are available for generic production, they are usually manufactured by several different companies, because it creates market competition and helps keep prices down, however, they all have to have unique imprints to enable them to be traced back to the manufacturer, in case of emergency. There are also no directives as to how they have to look, they can make them any shape or size they wish, as long as they are using inactive ingredients on the FDA's approved excipients list.
It is common for a pharmacy to switch which one they have, depending on which company was offering the cheapest price, at the time they needed to restock their supply. Thus, you could end up with different ones every month, or you might get the same ones for quite awhile.
Is there anything else I can help with?
