Are Generic Vicodin By Different Mfr Companys The Same

are generic vicodine by different mfr companys the same like hydrocod/apap 5/500 tab [mall[ and hydrocodone/apap 5/500 tab mck. first one purchased at vons 34.00 second purchased at cosco for 15.00 same amount. do they add anything different or use less effective ingredients?

They contain the same active ingredients, Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen, but there can be some fluctuations in them.

This is due to the fact that the FDA allows generics to differ from the name brand by as much as plus or minus 20% of the active ingredients, however, generic manufacturers just have to stay within that allowable difference, they don't have to measure against each other.

Therefore from one generic to the other, you may have one that isn't giving you as much of the active ingredients as another one did, or it may give you more, depending on their quality control.

The two manufacturers that you mentioned are Merck and Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and I have read many complaints about Mallinckrodt's products.

The maximum amount of acetamenophen contained in any hydrocodone combination medication is now 325mg per tablet. The Watson or Qualitest generic brands are by far the best in my opinion. My understanding is the FDA allows a 5% difference plus or minus the target dose. :)

Scroll down to the dosages and you'll see it's available with as much as 750mgs of the Acetaminophen.

And then Google the Hatch-Watchman Act and you'll discover that the difference is, as I stated, up tp plus or minus 20%.

My mom had back surgery and she has taken hydrocodone/acetaminophen but it was called Norco. Several months ago the medicine changed from oval yellow to oval white. She noticed a big difference in pain control. I asked the pharmacists and they said many people have said the same thing. It seems there is not as pain killing medicine and she said Qualitest is the most effective. But they didn't sell it. Most don't anymore because the other brands are cheaper. How can it be legal? Why isn't there more people reporting this to pharmacy boards?
