Anyone Prescribed, Contrave As Well As Phentermine & Belviq At Once?

I began taking Phetermine in October of '14, weighing in at 272 big ones! Yikes! I had weight loss--but in December my doctor suggested we pair the Phen with Contrave. He said it would help in the evening when I usually like my snacks. My weight loss was minimal but still there. By Feb. '15, I'm down 55lbs, but again weight loss was moving slower. So my doctor wants me to add Belviq. I've been taking all three and so far no major side effects. Just thirsty for water.

I feel like contrave is supposed to be this miracle drug, but I don't feel like it does anything. Am I the only one being prescribed all these at the same time?

Side note, I just has full blood work completed to make sure none of my organs are shutting down from this. Since day 1, I've eaten better and less & work out 4-6 times a week.

Am I alone?

The biggest risk that I've found listed from combining them is between the Belviq and the Bupropion in the Contrave, because they can both increase serotonin levels, which could lead to serotonin syndrome.

However, if your doctor feels that you should try them together, then just make sure that they are monitoring your very frequently for any signs of this condition, such as increased heart rate, sweating, dilated pupils and over responsive reflexes.

Typical side effects of these weight loss medications, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness and anorexia.

There have been safety trials for Belviq used in conjunction with phentermine. Ask your MD to look for the data.

Belviq + Phentermine led to an average weight loss of more than 8.5% at the 12 week mark. That is an average.

8.5% at 12 weeks compares to Contrave's 8.2% at FIFTY-TWO weeks and it takes about 40 weeks to lose that much weight on Qsymia.

I'm not a medical professional, but I would be afraid to take two diet pills at once! I did that a few years ago and about ruined my health. I took Phentermine and Alli--not that my doctor knew it. Alli is now over the counter. I lost 60 pounds but have been trying to get my Vitamin D level, which was almost completely depleted, back up ever since.. I didn't realize that low Vitamin D can cause so many health problems, some severe. I realize the two medicines that I took are not the two you are talking about, but I would be careful. I guess if you trust your doctor, and he monitors your health and blood work, it would be okay. But, I'm so skeptical, I would have to do my own research, too!

Be careful with any drug containing topamax. I took it for spinal pain. Lost nearly half my hair, my memory, coordination. Low dose naltrexone is better if u have compulsive eating. Mindless eating. Turns off that switch. However. .I am a nurse and my personal opinion is that the dose of naltrexone in contrave is WAY to high! Better off asking doctor for low dose naltrexone. Which a compounding pharmacy can make. You can also easily compound it yourself with a 50mg tablet. It's cheap. No side effects at such low doses. (1-5mg.) Ask me anything I'm happy to help! I'm not certain y anyone would need both. Phentermine works short term. In ohio u must take a "break" every 3 months..by law. It's basically speed & very addictive. Worse..it doesn't change ur brain/thinking. Which low dose naltrexone does.

I don't think this is safe. I just started on contrive this week and my doctor said to be sure that I didn't have anymore phentermine and not take them at the same time. Look at the drug interactions on both.. you will find the best information about that

I have been on Cymbalta for about 10 years, at one time combined with abilify. The combo was short lived because my insurance would not pay for ability, but the Cymbalta is still in my system. I had a lot of dosaster in my life at the time and it just seems that my doctor didn't see any reason to stop the antidepressant when I questioned her about it. I am now interested in trying contrave because I have an on and off eating problem, but it has Wellbutrin and I want to stop the Cymbalta first. I am hoping that the amt of Wellbutrin will help with depression in case I need it. In the past 5 weeks I went from 60 mg to 50 to 40 to 30 and will begin 20 mg on Sunday. My new doctor prescribed Vyvanse because I am a bit ADD and it has now been FDA approved for binge eating. I have been taking it along with the Cymbalta for about 6 months and though it helps with alertness, it does nothing for food control (at least not for me). Because I want to give contrave a fair try, I am weening myself off of the Vyvanse also. Has anyone taken Vyvanse and contrave together? My doc said it probably wouldn't hurt but I need a more positive statement than that.

It's the mixing of wellbutrin and the phentermine that my doctor spoke of, said the combination has disastrous effects

My weight loss doc has me taking 1/2 a 37.5 mg phentermine and 1/2 a 50mg naltrexone with 150mg bupropion in a.m. And then another 150mg bupropion and the other 1/2 of the naltrexone in pm before dinner -- it's only day 2 but I don't think I like it --feel foggy headed all day

It took me until I got to the 2 pills in the morning and 2 at night to start seeing weight loss. I went back to the doctor 6 weeks after starting and had lost 12 lbs. Thought that was pretty good considering I didn't see any effects the first 2 - 2 1/2 weeks.

Wow that is a lot of medicine at once! Are you able to sleep? Are all those medicines making you sick or feel different in any way?

I am only on Vyvanse and my doctor won’t prescribe any other medicine with that because it is dangerous due to medicine complications!

Be very careful and you should be checked at least once a month ... labs and blood pressure and heart for complications!

Hi I am taking Phentermine and I also take escitolopram. I wonder why I was never offered wellbutrin for weight loss? I have been researching and it seems Contrave or Wellbutrin and the other ingredient in contrave (naltrexone) would be better in helping in weight loss. A dr tried to get me to take Qysmia and even wouldn't prescribe it unless I got on birth control. I did my research an told him to shove it that I had never had problems with Phentermine and understand it is for short term use but I would not be taking an anytime seizure combination. He also told me to eat 500 calories a day and disregarded my PCOS an dietary restrictions I got from a blood test for food sensitivities. I am tiredd of doctors treating me like I don't know my body. I do believe I am insulin resistant as this dr. Said, but it seems no one will give me adequate information where the full spectrum of medicine is concerned. Thanks all :)

I started taking Contrave and really did not find any positive effects. My doctor then put me on topiramate 25mg 2x a day and phentermine 30 mg once a day, lost 20 lb over the 1st 3 mths with diet and excercise but have been stuck for 2 mths now. I workout 5 x a week cardio and weights and I am on weight watchers religiously and I cant lose any more weight and its really depressing
