Antidepressant Weight Gain

I was on Paxil and gained 60 lbs in 6 months. I took it as a migraine preventative and it worked wonders but I was always a normal weight and then suddenly I was FAT! After a few years, I could not stand it and switched to Cymbalta but I stayed fat. I do not know what to do. I changed my diet to no junk food at all and it does not seem to matter. I have tried to get off of it but when I taper off, I have terrible heart palpitations. Help!

Hello, Mica! How are you?

Most antidepressants do cause weight gain in most people that take them.

You might want to try asking your doctor about trying Prozac/Fluoxetine. It is also an SSRI, just like the Paxil, but it isn't known to cause weight gain, as a matter of fact, in some people it may cause weight loss.

Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness and dry mouth.

Is there anything else I can help with?
