Antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome
(Newest replies first)

I was prescribed Uvox100 Pexep CR 25 and Clonil for treating my depression but i was not comfortable with them. But then also i took them for more than a year and ultimately i had to forcefully drop the medication in between, because it had made my life so worse. It had totally numbed my emotions as well as my mind which i later found out with a different doctor that those medicines were far more than the required ones, in my case, these high power medicines were not required in my case. Because i was not such a heavy patient of depression, diagnosing my symptoms my second doctor told me. So now by leaving the medication in between has created an another problem for me which resembles to Antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome so for it i have been prescribed Practin 4mg. Is it right medicine for this kind of problem ?

Yes sir, what i experience the most now are:
1. Numbness(My brain doesn't react, i couldn't react accordingly. I think because of the chemical in-balance caused by the miss-consumption of the medicines. My complete brain parts are not fully restored yet!).
2. Emotional In-Balance(Whenever i try to feel or try to get emotional i just experience some sensations that resemble electric shocks. Brain-shocks, brain-shivers, brain-zaps . It is so embarrassing for me when i couldn't feel any emotions or feelings)
Although for the same we had started some homeopathic medicines, and i took it for about one and a half month! But i noticed that it was very very slow improvement. I consultated with my doctor and asked him that whether i could go for psychopathic, he told yes i could go but only and only if my problem is unbearable ! So i reached this better doctor who practices psychopathy. He has suggested me Practin 4mg. Right 4m the first day i took it, i felt significant positive changes. I felt much more consciousness. Although my mind is not fully activated and m not well completely.
Plz let me tell you or share with you my full case history...
Sir, it started in June 2008, i had been given these medications - Uvox-100+Pexep CR-25+Clonil.
Doctors said because i was suffering 4m OCD. So, i started taking them. I took them but i didn't take it regularly and according to schedule(i used to have them regularly when i was at home, but couldn't when i left for town where i was doing my graduation), after a year while taking the medicines, i felt some extra-normal difficulties in expressing, thinking and executing in all respects. It became so difficult for me to study. Almost impossible to do the studies. But somehow i managed and passed my exams. I experienced a huge emotional in-balance. That did not allow me to express my feelings or share my feelings with the friends. That not only ruined my social life but also i was not able to satisfy myself or couldn't made happy to myself. And if u are not able to make happy to yourself than its nowhere u can find ur peace. Than i strongly focused on stopping the medicines and ultimately dropped all the medications, on my own in Oct-2010!
Actually i don't think that i was comfortable when i was taking them regularly, they used to numb my senses all my emotions! As a result i had just gone frustrated with these medicines.
After leaving medicines i felt much and much more relaxed!!! But not perfect, not completely in my senses. I couldn't be called a normal person, couldn't work. Brain doesn't functions normally and emotional-in-balance still there!
Practin contains the active ingredient Cyproheptadine, which is an antihistamine, it is most commonly used to treat allergic reactions, but this class of medications can also have calming, sedative like effects, which may be why your doctor prescribed it to you.

The discontinuation syndrome can be problematic, but will eventually taper off, on its on.
My doctors had once put me on one, as well, that I later found out was not needed. I had been misdiagnosed and it was really the medications I had been given for problem they thought I had that were causing side effects, which resulted in them thinking I needed an antidepressant. I had been taking it for several years and the withdrawal symptoms did take several months to wear off.
