Does it matter when I take the 2nd dose? ## Yes, antibiotics need to be maintained at a regular level in your body to be fully effective, so you should take your doses as close to 12 hours apart as possible, according to FDA directions. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?
I am prescribed 1 Cephalexin 500mg pill every 6 hours for a UTI. How many is that a day? How should I adjust when I sleep 8-9 hours at night? ## That would be 4 tablets a day, so if you were told to take them at that frequency, you should use an alarm to make sure to take as prescribed. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Have you started taking it, yet? Are you on any other medications?
The dosing guidelines say to take 2 tablets every 6 hours, but previously said 2 tablets four times a day. At 250mgs, how should I take these for tonsillitis? ## Hello, Kim! How are you? Taking them every 6 hours is the same as taking them 4 times a day. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Thus, you should follow your doctor's dosing instructions. Is there anything else I can help with? ## 2 tablets 4 times a day is like 8 am 12noon 4 pm 8pm .2 tablets every 6 hours you are only getting 3 doses in unless your going to get up again early hours to take . So 2 four times a day it is then .
Hi, I had Titus about six months ago and they gave me a Z pack so it didn't work in my lungs. I have been messed up for a while now. And I just stopped smoking. I was wondering if I could use my old bottle as it still has the 20 in it and has been opened but there is a little thing in there to make them last longer and stay fresh. It's says discard after 9/4/2016. I was really hoping to use these due to financial reasons. I read they will lose potency after 18 months. Am I ok? Thank you very much. I appreciate the answer. ## What are you trying to treat? I am sorry, but you really haven't provided a lot of details. Do you currently have some type of infection that requires an antibiotic? You mentioned what it was prescribed for 6 months ago, but not why you feel the need to ...
I was taking penicillin and now need to switch to a zpak. How long should I wait before starting the new meds? ## Unless your doctor or pharmacist has said otherwise, you should be able to just cleanly switch from one to the other. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. In most cases, they just have you replace the next required dose with the new one and proceed from there. Are you on any other medications?
I am currently on 20mg of Methadone and went to the dr yesterday and was prescribed Sulfameth/Trimethoprim. My dr. knows that I am on Methadone from my last appt with her a couple months ago. I just want to make sure that it is ok to take these together. ## Hi Nicole, From what I could gather, there is said to be a "minor" interaction between Methadone and Sulfa-Tmp. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients, since minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed. The information I found on this interaction is quoted below, although I personally don't find their wording to make the most of sense: "Limited data su...

I used it a couple times made my ear feel really clogged and over all just worse. My worry is that the liquids just being trapped in there and im adding more just making it worse anyone used this before and know?? Please help had the infection since sunday night ## Hello, Kylie! How are you? I've had swimmer's ear and used these drops. That feeling is normal, when you use them, because in order to reach the infected part of the ear, you have to fill the ear canal with them. According to the FDA, for the best effectiveness, you should keep your head tilted to the side for 5 minutes, before straightening it and allowing the ear to drain. However no, ...

Do after maybe threr days a bubble formed on the roof of my mouth. It hurts a little. I called dentist friday they gave me amoxicillin 500milligrams. How long will it take for the bubble to be hone totslly. How long for any relief ## It depends on what has caused the problem. If it is due to an infection, you should finish the course of antibiotic that they have prescribed, then consult your dentist, or doctor, if the problem persists. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. How big is it? Has there been any change?
It's a green and white capsule from mexico. I think it is an antibiotic but am not certain. ## This sounds a lot like Doxycycline... or some foreign version of it. I've seen other trade names of Doxycycline that appeared similar to what you mentioned; however I get the sense that the spelling is always subject to change when obtaining medications from abroad or via unregulated websites. If you live in the US, I'd probably consider taking it into a local pharmacy to see if they have any way of analyzing its contents. If I had to guess though, 100mg Doxycycline (an antibiotic) seems like a high probability. Please post back if you come across any new information.
About a month ago I woke up with swollen eyelids, red eyes, no itching and had watery liquid coming out. The Ophthalmologist could not find anything wrong with the eyes and made a channel on the side of the eyes for extra fluid to drain. I was OK for a few days then both the swelling and redness came back. Went to a GP and he diagnosed me with a bacterial infection and prescribed doxycycline 100 mg two times for 15 days. I finished my antibiotic course two days ago but every morning the swelling of the eyelids (both upper and bottom) is worse in the morning and is gone by the afternoon, but the redness and watery discharge remains throughout. Again, the next day same issue. FYI - I don't have more crust upon waking up than I used to have before this condition developed. Please tell ...
Updated in DoxycyclineI have had the flu and severe swollen tonsils for 3 days. Someone gave me a package of Pentrexyl. Same thing happened 6 years ago and I also had to take an antibiotic. Assuming it's an infection, will this work for my tonsils? ## Hello, Andrew! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're ill. Pentrexyl is listed as containing Ampicillin, which the FDA classifies as an antibiotic that's used to treat various bacterial infections. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, it is only appropriate to take, if you have an infection. It will not help with the flu, since that is caused by a virus and taking it inappropriately creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Have you c...
I had a runny nose, cough, headache, and low grade fever which all of these symptoms are now gone, but I now have sore throat and was wondering if I can take pentrexyl ampicilina for this condition. I still have congestion and a dry cough. ## Has your doctor prescribed it for such? Ampicillin is an antibiotic, commonly used to treat various types of infections, so it will ONLY help with this condition if it is being caused by an infection of some sort. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, skin rash and diarrhea. You can read more on it here: Is there anything else I can help you with? ## I have fever severe headache coughing runny nose sneezing body aches dizziness blurred vision and over all feeling like crap. My hubby is Mexican and he said I have 2 take pentrexyl 500m...
I have been sick for a week. I have been coughing a lot & wheezing. I have a lot of phlegm but can't cough it up. I started using essential oils & it seems to be helping some. Could I have pneumonia? ## It is possible, however, there are also other possibilities, according to the NIH, such as a cold, asthma, congestive heart failure, bronchitis, and etc. However, only your doctor can give you a definitive diagnosis. And regardless of which condition might be causing these symptoms, essential oils are not going to cure it. Viruses will have to run to their course, and other conditions will require medical treatment. Has there been any change? ## please go see a doctor. they can listen to lungs and get an xray to see if you have pneumonia. that's what they did for me and i...

UpdatedI am on round 3 of macrobid for a UTI that won't go away. Mainly, I have had two weeks of diarrhea and wonder how common this is. I am working with a new urogynecologist to get rid of UTI but wondered if I am going to have diarrhea forever. ## No, while diarrhea can be a side effect, as reported by the FDA, it should go away within a week or two of your finishing your course of treatment. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, and non-allergic skin rash. Have they cultured the bacteria to see specifically what caused it? This may not be the right antibiotic to treat all types of bacteria that can cause UTI's. ## I've read that Macrobid can cause pulmonary problems, in particular a chronic cough. Patients should also be monitored if they are taki...
Hi, I used persivate on my face for about a year then decided to stop with it. When I stopped I had a bad rash which was very painful and looked very bad I was very insecure about my face. I went to the GP and was prescribed some antibiotics and epimax cream. It's been a week after that and my skin looks and feels a lot better. I do however believe that my faith also has a lot to do with my healing process, received a lot of prayers and encouragement through this
UpdatedHi i have pimples on my skin i was given doxytet which is working fine nw my concern is my husband n i we are trying to fall pregnant will this pill affect this process should i stop taking them? ## Hi, Mislee! How are you? Doxytet contains the active ingredient Doxycycline and while it won't affect your ability to get pregnant, it shouldn't be taken while you are pregnant, because animal studies have shown evidence of it causing fetal toxicity. And since you really can't know the exact time you get pregnant, you should probably speak to your doctor now about either discontinuing it or using a safer antibiotic. Learn more Doxytet details here. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been on contraceptives pill i jst stopped taking them,i missed periods for two mont...
Taking doxycycline for a staph infection on surgical site. Day 2, no change. When should I see results? How long before it works? ## Hello, Kay! How are you? The general rule for antibiotics is that if the are working, you should not see any worsening after taking them for a full 24 hours, and you should start to see improvement after taking them for a full 3 days, according to general NIH reports. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Has there been any change, yet?
Can I take Betamox 500mg for flu & cold symtoms? ## Betamox contains the active ingredient Amoxicillin, which is an antibiotic and it is only effective at treating bacterial infections. Since cold or flu and the symptoms form them are caused by viruses, it will not help with treat them. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. Additionally, you create the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, so it really isn't wise to take it for viruses. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Is betamox suspension dark purple in colour, with a grape flavour?
I'm in the first trimester of my pregnancy and was experiencing vaginal itching, even when I urinate. So I went to pharmacy and they prescribed me these capsules Doxytet and Anaerobyl, and also gave me topical cream Canalba. So I want to know if they are safe for pregnant woman? ## Hi Sharon, Are you referring to the medications Doxycycline and ANAEROBYL-GOLD (metronidazole)? If so, my research tells me that Doxcycline is only recommended for use during pregnancy when there are no other alternatives and the benefit of using the medication outweighs the risk. Doxycycline is considered pregnancy Category D medicine, which means that there is a high significant risk to an unborn baby. In regards to ANAEROBYL-GOLD (metronidazole), I've read that this medication is not recommended fo...
