My child was prescribed one for acne, the other for an upper respiratory infection. Should he take both, or stop taking the one for acne until he finishes the one for infection? ## Hi Lorraine, Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between the active ingredients in Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim) and Amoxicillin; deeming them as safe to take together. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. I hope this helps to answer your question! :) ## I'm curious. One of my colleagues, a herm, lives in my building and my domestic partner needs meds for acne. I did, too, and I don't ever recall using Amoxicillin for acne. Yes, Amox s good for...

I have been subscribed sulfameth trimethoprim 800 160 for a skin rash. Sulfar content scares me since I had a friend died taking sulfa with Steven Johnson Syndrome. I need more advice on this med. It was prescribed by a Nurse Practioner ## Please see Jo Ann's question below, have not received an answer. ## Hello, Jo Ann! How are you? This is an antibiotic that's used to treat infections and its normal side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. That syndrome is a possible risk associated with any antibiotic, but it is a very slight risk. There's actually a great chance of having an allergic reaction to this one, since about 3% of the population are allergic to it. If it's just a skin rash and not an actual infection, then this medicat...

is sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim related to penicillin Im allergic to Penicillin I have a cold and I wanted to make sure I am safe taking this drug ## Hello, Renay! How are you? I'm sorry that your sick. No, this is a sulfa based antibiotic in a different drug family. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, joint aches, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, antibiotics will not do anything to treat a cold. Colds are caused by viruses and antibiotics, such as this, are only effective at treating bacterial infections. Additionally, taking it when it isn't appropriate creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I am taking Apollo sulfate I'm DE tablets...

Hello, I recently visited India and I came away with diarrhea and abdominal cramping. While in India a pharmacist provided me with NorFlox 400. My question: Is this the appropriate pharmaceutical? My research seems to indicate that NorFlox is more appropriate for urinary infections. Can you please advise. Thank you. Richard ## Hi Richard I lived in India for seven years and was prescribed Norflox 400 from one of the best doctors in the country and it helped in fact it was the only thing that did. What you are possibly reading about online is Norfloxicin or similar names which are prescribed for urinary infections. I am not a doctor but I think this might not be the same as the Norflox. I took Norflox 400 whenever I had a flash of Delhi belly which was fairly often and I never had any si...

Hello can you help me I am on amoxicillin 3 times a day for a abscess in my mouth I have took 3 already and thought the pain mite of eased by now but it has not is this the right medication for me ## Hello, Cheryl! How are you? This is an antibiotic to help clear up the infection, but it will not relieve the pain. However, the pain will ease, as the infection clears up, but it usually takes about 3 days for the antibiotic to start working. If the pain continues past 3 days, then you will need to see your doctor or dentist, again. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Have been on a 7 day course of Trimethoprim for 5 days now for a bad UTI/ Kidney infection & it seems to be working ok as regards the pain in my stomach, sides & flank but I must admit that it does make me feel as though I have the flu coming on (eg) joint pain, headache, mixture of constipation & diarrhea, just generally yucky in general. My most worrying thing is that I have a history of psoriasis & was on the evil drug called Methotrexate for about 4 years which was awful & although I stopped taking Methotrexate in February 2015 I have just noticed that you should not take Trimethoprim if you take Methotrexate even though I stopped taking it 6 months ago I am a little worried because my already sore skin seems to be playing up more since I took Trimethoprim, or is...

Every time i take it for anything, i feel so happy and healthy i don't want to come off it. I feel more energetic, happier and great. The course ends for whatever i took it for, and i go back to feeling lethargic and depressed. ## Hello, Kerri! How are you? That's very odd for an antibiotic, it usually causes drowsiness, headache, dizziness and diarrhea as side effects, according to the FDA. If you're feeling lethargic and depressed regularly, have you informed your doctor? You may need to try a medication to help with it. How long have you been feeling this way?

I have pain in my whole neck and my whole neck is this normal the pain is so bad. Iam on antibiotics from yesterday but how long will it take to go. ?? ## Hello, Julie! How are you? The general rule for antibiotics is that if they are working, there shouldn't be any worsening after being on them for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement after a full 3 days of taking them. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. If there's not improvement after a couple more days, you should see your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

How are you? I'm very sorry about the side effects you're experiencing. How long will you be taking it this time? The FDA does list these among the possible side effects, along with non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. What other antibiotics have you tried? The wheezing is a concern, because that may mean you have a slight allergy to this antibiotic and it may get worse.

Been prescribed doxycycline to treat my roscea and have a few celebrations coming up and also going on holiday soon so l am just wanting to know if it would be ok to have alcohol during this treatment . ## Hello, Hillypop! How are you? Actually, if you have rosacea, you should stay away from alcohol. While it doesn't cause it, it can trigger or worsen flare ups, so you'd kind of be defeating the purpose of taking the antibiotic. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Doxycycline as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

My Dr said I had a UTI, all though I had no symptoms, so put me on a course of nitrofurantion. I started feeling faint, about to pass out, my heart was racing, and I was breathless, I returned to the Dr, and he put me on a higher dose, I felt even worse, and my right eye couldn't focus properly, I ended up in hospital for a week, still having funny turns, but they couldn't find anything wrong with me. And denied it could be the nitrofurantion. My optician checked my eyes ,and said vision in one eye had got worse,I went back after three weeks, and it had gone back to normal,he said it could have been the pills. This was last September, but I still feel absolutely exhausted, and all my muscles feel weak, could it have such a lasting effect. ## Hello, Jean! How are you? I'm sor...
